In 2021, The University of Texas System Board of Regents approved the establishment of The University of Texas School of Public Health San Antonio (UT SPH SA), a collaboration between The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, also called UT Health San Antonio, and The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), both of whom are Hispanic-serving institutions. Leveraging the collective strengths garnered from UT Health San Antonio’s standing as a premier academic health center and UTSA’s accomplishments as a very high research comprehensive university, UT SPH SA will provide innovative education and needed public health initiatives to lessen the negative health impacts experienced throughout the metropolitan San Antonio area, South Texas, and the nation.

Fundamental to building a premier, community-centric, research intensive public health school will be the recruitment of the Director of the Master’s of Public Health (M.P.H.) program. This full-time faculty leader will have primary responsibility for the development, implementation, and management of the M.P.H. program, consistent with the professional accreditation guidelines established by the Council of Education for Public Health (CEPH) and in accordance with expectations set by The University of Texas Board of Regents, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools-Commission on Colleges.

The Director will be actively involved in all aspects of the M.P.H. program, including but not limited to:

  • Coordinate curriculum development, consonant with accreditation requirements and reporting for CEPH, THECB, and SACSCOC
  • Collaborate with the appropriate committees, faculty members, and administrators in developing coursework, experiential learning, assessment of student outcomes and identifying strategies for continuous quality improvement.
  • Teaching masters-level courses based on the faculty member’s disciplinary expertise
  • Preparing reports and supporting documents for accrediting bodies
  • Representing the M.P.H. program and UT SPH SA at diverse institutional, community, and professional meetings
  • Developing and maintaining recruiting materials for the program
  • Advising students
  • Conducting outreach to stakeholders locally and nationally
  • Recruiting students, playing a leadership role in the admissions process, and developing a retention plan for M.P.H. students
  • Plan, establish, and evaluate strategic goals and milestones for the program, including maintaining contact with graduates to track outcomes
  • Program management, to include budgetary responsibility

The Program Director should have administrative experience and proven leadership in developing new programs. The program director is responsible for leading the strategic direction of the program in addition to supporting recruiting efforts, advising, and scheduling among other administrative duties. Previous leadership or experience with the public health accreditation process, including the self-study process, submission guidelines, and timelines, an accredited M.P.H. or allied health program is preferred.

Faculty Appointment:

This position is an open-rank position, with status as either non-tenured, tenure-track, or tenured determined based on the successful candidate’s demonstrated record of academic and professional expertise.

Candidates for this position may be appointed as either an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, and qualified applicants must meet University requirements a faculty appointment with tenure status and rank dependent upon experience. The Director will have research, teaching, and service responsibilities in addition to the Director responsibilities.

Minimum qualifications (required at time of application)

Qualifications include an M.P.H and strong record of program administration, with at least 5 years of significant experience in public health education or administration. Preferred qualifications include a doctorate in public health, health administration, health services research, health economics, health policy, business administration, or other relevant field.
