Overview
Under the leadership of the Assistant Vice President for Institutional Research, direct the daily analytics operations of the Office of Institutional Research to provide data, insights, and other information about NYUs academic activities to university leadership and government agencies. Oversee the distribution of records and reports in the Institutional Research website and Tableau reporting environment, and ensure the analytics team appropriate documents methodologies. Manage the workloads of Institutional Research Analysts and advise on the routing of ad hoc projects between university teams. Supports ad hoc data needs in support of senior leadership decision making involving institutional accreditation, enrollment management, management of instructional faculty and staff, and student enrollment and student success outcomes.
Responsibilities
Required Education:
Master's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Education, Business, or a related field or Doctoral Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Education, Business, or a related field.
Required Experience:
7+ years in research design, data collection and retrieval, statistical analysis, reporting, IT project management or an equivalent combination of education and experience. and 3+ years managing professional and/or support staff.
Preferred Experience:
5+ years progressively responsible experience with data warehousing/reporting in a higher education setting.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Expertise with database retrieval (e.g. using SQL with Tableau, Oracle or MSSQL reporting environments); database management, structure and programming. Ability to present information to senior administration. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to translate and present complex information into non-technical analyses and recommendations. Proven knowledge and application of dashboard design concepts. Strong analytical skills and experience in visualizing and analyzing metrics, survey results, and trends. Proven organizational, interpersonal, and problem solving skills. Ability to develop effective business relationships and build consensus. Strong team player. Ability to manage multiple priorities under hard deadlines while maintaining a high level of professionalism and exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Must be well versed in quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy and legitimacy of data in NYU systems and be able to strictly follow data privacy and security procedures for data handling and analysis to ensure adherence to legal and institutional standards.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Experience with Tableau Server administrative tools and extract automation. Advanced knowledge of databases and data management with proficiency in ad hoc reporting/query writing and data manipulation (with SQL, Tableau, OBIEE, etc.). Skill with statistical packages (e.g. R or SPSS). Ability to interact with all levels of personnel, students, faculty, and the public. Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy when dealing with difficult issues and/or diverse organizations. Ability to evaluate and implement technological improvements to meet best practices. Familiarity with version control. In-depth knowledge of student data structures.
Qualifications
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $90,000.00 to USD $130,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
