Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Director will partner with on-campus and off-campus constituencies to design and implement a residential program to support students with intellectual disabilities who want to continue academic, career, and independent living instruction to prepare for gainful employment.
  • Create an inclusive community where students feel connected, challenged, and supported while participating in a high quality inclusive post-secondary college experience.
  • Define and implement guiding pillars and principles for the program, with emphasis on career development, self-advocacy, and life planning.
  • Develop a person-centered planning process to guide the students’ journey at UNCW.
  • Facilitate requirements for approval as a federally recognized Comprehensive Transition Program and pursue accreditation through the Inclusive Higher Education Accreditation Council.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Social Work, Rehabilitation Counseling, or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • A minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in a relevant leadership position.
  • Work experience with youth and/or young adults with intellectual disabilities.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including excellent interpersonal communication, written reports, and correspondence, and presentations for large and small audiences.
  • Experience designing and implementing assessment of learning outcomes for young adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
  • Strong understanding of the Higher Education Opportunity Act.
  • Plan, conduct, and implement evidence-based practices for students with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
  • Exemplary ability to build relationships with campus and community partners.
  • Demonstrated passion for the program’s mission, with experience leading in a variety of settings serving young adults with intellectual disabilities.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

The Comprehensive Transition Postsecondary (CTP) Program is charged with:
  • Providing academic, career, and independent living instruction on a college campus through a collegiate experience for individuals with intellectual disabilities, to prepare for future employment.
  • Prioritizing inclusion to the fullest extent possible in campus life and activities with appropriate and necessary support services available.
  • Creating and promoting an environment that fosters diversity and inclusion.
  • Supporting the Division of Student Affairs and UNCW Strategic Plan and Priorities.
