Department Summary
Directs strategic and operational activities related to student eligibility for Title IV aid and associated aid programs in order to maintain a high level of compliance, efficiency, and effective customer service.
Position Overview
This position will be responsible for leading a critical area of Financial Aid & Scholarships (FAS) and the training of applicable staff. This position will develop and maintain compliant and efficient office policy, procedures, and business practices related to federal, state, and institutional financial aid eligibility, verification of files, resolving conflicting information, evaluation of satisfactory academic progress, student appeals, financial aid adjustments, and the review of related quality controls. This position will directly supervise team supervisors as well as develop and manage a training program for staff regarding financial aid policy, procedures, and financial aid counseling.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in related field and six years of closely related professional experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Working knowledge of fiscal policies and financial aid programs of the University.
• Thorough knowledge of office practices and procedures, including knowledge of automated information management systems.
• Ability to train and supervise subordinate employees.
• Ability to counsel students.
• Ability to relate student applications to available scholarship and loan funds.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to prepare accurate reports.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, and with other employees, and to deal with public relations problems courteously and tactfully.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ten years of financial aid administration or related experience
  • PeopleSoft experience

Required License / Registration / Certification
Obtain clearance to NSLDS within 30 days of hire.
Work Schedule
Monday – Friday 8-5, some required overtime.

Job Duties


o
Directs strategic and operational activities related to student eligibility for Title IV aid and associated aid programs in order to maintain a high level of compliance, efficiency, and effective customer service.
o
Directs all functions relative to completing aid adjustments, timely disbursements, and related quality controls.
o
Develop and maintain departmental policies and procedures related to student aid eligibility to include appeal and hardship policies and procedures.
o
Manages Financial Aid & Scholarships (FAS) training program to help ensure the accurate, timely, and compliant administration of financial aid, customer service, and counseling. Interviews, hires, and trains staff to include the direct supervision of management level employees.
o
Responsible for maintaining a high level of knowledge and understanding of current federal, state, and institutional aid administration rules and regulations in order to ensure federal, state, and institutional compliance, development of best business practices, and partnering with University and external stakeholders to fulfill the mission of the University, Division and Departmental goals.
