Position Description
Under the direction from the Dean, Enrollment Services, this position directs the day-to-day operations of the Financial Aid Department. The position is also responsible for the efficient operations of the District's Enrollment Services Department ensuring compliance with all regulations that govern the area of responsibility and ensuring that all necessary data is gathered for the production of mandated financial aid reports.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures that the operation of the Financial Aid Department is in compliance with the state and federal regulations that govern federal student aid, state student aid, scholarships, disbursements, and the benefits provided to veteran students.
  • Ensures that departmental operations comply with organizational policies, collective bargaining agreements, and state/local regulations.
  • Makes determinations of student appeals to staff determinations related to financial aid.
  • Ensures that financial aid is disbursed according to disbursement dates.
  • Analyze data to ensure the accuracy of the data that is reported.
  • Completes federal, state, county, and district reports for area under responsibility.
  • Organizes financial aid outreach activities with other departments and areas.
  • Analyze departmental operations to assist in the assessment of departmental operations and services to determine if goals and objectives have been achieved.
  • Implements departmental policy changes, policy modifications, special assignments, goals, and objectives.
  • Analyze departmental expenditures and departmental needs to assist the supervising manager in approving the use of departmental funds, developing the departmental budget.
  • Engages and enforces the disciplinary process, if/when needed.
  • Participates in the District's recruitment process to assist in hiring of classified and unclassified staff.
  • Apportions work amongst subordinate classified staff.
  • Analyze employee performance to develop performance evaluations and address performance issues.
  • Approves paid time off for employees under supervision.
  • Authorizes departmental personnel actions.
  • Effectively engage and support historically minoritized groups by addressing issues of equity and improving culturally responsive service-oriented practices.

  • Apply knowledge of FERPA to ensure that departmental practices do not disclose student information to unauthorized parties.

  • Minimum Qualifications
    Any combination equivalent to: A bachelor's degree and/or five (5) of experience working in financial aid and or a related field;
    ANDCommitment to community college goals/objectives of being an equity-based and anti-racist institution, and providing quality programs and services for culturally, socio-economically, ethnically, and academically diverse students and students with disabilities; personal qualities to work effectively and with sensitivity in a multicultural environment; awareness of and commitment to the needs of non-traditional and/or re-entry students with diverse abilities and interests;ANDMust have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.
