Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Director of Administrative Services, (DAS) is responsible for providing leadership, management, and strategic direction to senior management of AOSC, faculty and staff. In particular, the director will oversee the following key areas: Financial Management, Administrative Management, and Human Resources Management. The director will oversee business processes and improvements, including internal policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with strategic goals, operational excellence, efficiency, consistency and compliance across the different programmatic areas. The director will advise the Chair and senior academic and research staff on issues involving business and finance, and will serve as the financial liaison between the unit and other departments on campus, as well as the College of Computer, Mathematical and Natural Sciences (CMNS).

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting/finance or related field.


Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience holding progressively responsible professional management positions ideally within UMCP or the University of Maryland System with emphasis on the financial and business coordination of an academic/scientific research department.
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience .

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Superb leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, and an ability to function in a collaborative manner.
  • Ability to analyze situations, develop and ensure successful and efficient implementation of organization business plans; ability to select, train and motivate staff; ability to effectively interact with campus, system, state and federal officials .
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply federal, state and university regulations regarding sponsored research projects.
  • Extensive working knowledge of contract and grant administration.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage deadlines.
    Ability to work independently and to exercise considerable judgement and discretion.
  • Experienced user of KR, KFS, BA4 and PHR.
  • Superuser of Excel.

  • Masters degree in accounting/finance.
  • Experience in management of business and financial operations of a large university research program strongly.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in finance, accounting and personnel management
  • Extensive knowledge of University contracting/purchasing/human resources and financial management systems.
  •  Ability to create systems and processes.
  • Ability to analyze situations, develop strategic plans and ensure successful and efficient implementation of such plans
  • Computer proficiency with spreadsheets, databases and word processing applications.
  • Strong analytical skills.

Additional Information:
Salary range $128,000-$160,000.
