Job Description:

At the University at Albany, learning by doing takes many forms - from undergraduate research and internships in the field, to project-based learning and service learning in the classroom. The Minerva Center for High Impact Learning supports high-impact practices in all UAlbany undergraduate programs, acting as a resource for both students and faculty. Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Innovation, the Director, Experiential Education is responsible for the supervision of a team of professional staff, faculty fellows, and graduate assistants.  The Director will collaborate closely with the Assistant Vice Provost to develop strategic partnerships and support the expansion of experiential education across the curriculum.  

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Develop, implement, and oversee experiential learning programs through the Minerva Center for High Impact Learning.  Priorities include the development of new programs that support undergraduate research and community-based learning.  
  • Supervise three full-time professional staff and one or more graduate assistants.  
  • Lead external funding efforts that support Minerva Center initiatives, including identifying funding sources, writing grant proposals, monitoring grant fund expenditures and compliance with grant requirements.
  • Partner with key stakeholders across campus, including faculty and Assistant/Associate Deans in UAlbany schools and colleges, to develop and enhance experiential learning across the university. 
  • Establish partnerships with external industries to develop undergraduate research, project-based and service-learning opportunities for students.  
  • Design and implement solutions to reduce gaps in access to experiential programs and the resources needed for student success in those programs.
  • Manage the Minerva Center experiential learning budget in consultation with the Assistant Vice Provost.
  • Advise the Assistant Vice Provost on strategic planning, policy, and procedural decisions.
  • Analyze data and prepare reports detailing work being done in the Minerva Center.  
  • Manage marketing and communication for Minerva Center experiential programs.  This includes but is not limited to, developing marketing materials, writing website copy, and presenting to incoming and potential students and families during recruitment events. 
  • Represent the department at events, meetings, and on university committees, including presentations and tabling at University Open House, Accepted Students Day, and online recruitment events. Occasional evening and weekend hours will be required.  


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree and three to five years of relevant professional experience.
  • Project management experience with a demonstrated ability to develop programs from idea to launch and then to scale.
  • Ability to analyze data, extract patterns, and convert these into actionable steps and programmatic suggestions.
  • Budget management experience, including experience applying for and managing external grant funding.  
  • Demonstrated excellence in supporting students.
  • Experience supervising graduate students and/or professional staff.
  • Willingness and ability to take initiative as appropriate. 
  • Ability to work well with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, ability to prioritize effectively, and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. 
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.

  • Ability to articulate knowledge of best practices in experiential learning.  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working with programs that support student research and/or community-based learning.
  • Experience working with educational technology, such as EAB, PeopleSoft, Brightspace, or a related platform.


Additional Information:

Professional Rank and Salary Range: Staff Associate, SL4; $70,000-75,000.
