Director - Events Management

Under the direction of the Chief Communications and Marketing Officer, the Director of Events Management oversees and directs the development and implementation of University events that support the president’s office, academic ceremonial events such as Commencement, and alumni and donor events. The Director of Event Management also provides direction for the development and implementation of other significant events for schools/colleges, and other stakeholders that make positive contributions to the university’s image and reputation. This involves management of a team of event professionals and support staff focused on best practices in executing quality events that build affinity and connect to the University. The Director of Events Management oversees and leads a team that plans, executes and manages all aspects of these key events and works cooperatively with marketing and communications staff, internal units and outside vendors as appropriate. The Director of Events Management is also responsible for prioritizing and implementing opportunities for improvement in effectiveness.

The Director of Events Management is an ambassador across the university to ensure key messages are developed and integrated into many established University events, including Welcome Week and Commencement.


Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related field is required.  

10 years of marketing and/or events experience.  

Minimum 5 years of experience managing team(s) focused on event planning. 

Strong track record of success managing contracts and relationships with external vendors.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, strong business acumen, interpersonal skills, ability to lead and integrate events with the overall university marketing plan. 

Ability to work with internal resources to troubleshoot logistics.

Fiscal and budget management experience.

Leadership skills to provide vision, motivation and guidance to team members.

Computer skills with ability to use Word, Excel; experience with CRM and event management software platforms is a plus. Strong track record of success managing contracts and relationships with external vendors

Demonstrated experience with strategic and master planning;

Experience with budget planning, forecasting and fiscal management of an operating budgeting
