The Director of Editorial Services, under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Executive and Internal Communications in the Division of Marketing & Communications, is responsible for the editorial integrity of communications across the university. This position primarily focuses on internal and executive communications that extend the university’s brand, story, and public relations efforts. Position details: Employees Supervised - Editorial Services Department

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ten years of progressive management and supervisory experience leading a team of professionals with experience in creating and managing editorial processes, developing editorial guides, working collaboratively with stakeholders, and writing and copy editing for various audiences. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expertise in copy editing and AP style.

  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills with sound editorial judgment.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Understanding the usage of university style and branding guidelines.

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.

  • Excellent communication and writing skills.

  • Attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in an applicable field.

Responsibilities

  • Communications - Oversee how the Texas A&M University story is told to key audiences and the broader public and ensure editorial integrity of external and internal communications. Oversee and assist, when applicable, with copy editing for internal and executive communications. Responsible for editorial integrity across the university, including internal and executive communications. Oversees quality control measures in place in regard to the distribution of university content. Work closely with university communicators to discuss university brand and editorial guideline implementation and enforcement, identify ways to improve the flow of materials, and serve as an editorial resource for communicators.

  • Compliance - Ensure compliance to Texas A&M Editorial Style Guide and brand voice to maintain consistency across all materials distributed from university communications.

  • Management - Manages a team in charge of copy editing, proofreading and content quality control, and must have an eye for detail and experience in managing and meeting fast-moving deadlines, creating editorial calendars and managing large projects.

  • Copy Editing Services - Provide copy editing services for a range of document formats, catering to a variety of audiences. Oversee and assist, when applicable, with copy editing for internal and executive communications. works closely with the Associate Vice President of Executive and Internal Communications, the Division of Marketing & Communications, and supporting teams to develop and implement comprehensive editorial workflows and processes. Reviews and approves all content developed to promote the university before it is distributed to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Web Content - Write and update web content as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
