Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Director, Digital & Data Solutions and Support within the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. The Director of Digital & Data Solutions and Support (D2S2) will provide leadership in building and driving digital initiatives that support clinical, research, and administrative objectives, with a focus on client engagement, translational science, and research, and internal operational efficiencies. The Director D2S2 will oversee the development of enterprise standards, technology, innovation, architecture, Information System operational requirements, technology evaluation and transfer, and assist the CIO with the IT governance process, while managing strategic vendor and partner relationships. This role will align the digital roadmap with the broader Institute strategy, mission, and values for acquiring and implementing advanced digital and data solutions.
Among the key duties for this position are the following:
  • Lead a cross-functional organization for the digital and data functions of the Institute, providing leadership, mentorship, training, and talent acquisition/retention.
  • Foster a culture of quality client service, sound security, innovation, and rapid cycle improvements that aligns with the Institute’s goals and mission.
  • Maximize the value of analytics, digital transformation, informatics, and innovation to transform the Institute’s digital capabilities, encouraging the adoption of contemporary methods, practices, and measurement systems.
  • Develop and implement digital strategies that drive innovation and smart technology investments, rethinking key Institute journeys to ensure readiness for the future.
  • Lead the delivery of services and informatics support as agreed upon in service level expectations, while staying up-to-date on emerging digital standards and industry trends.
  • Participate in establishing governance processes of direction and control to ensure that objectives are achieved, risks are managed appropriately, and the Institute’s resources are used responsibly for digital and data functions.
  • Oversee the Institute’s digital systems and technology planning, project management, procurement approach, standards, budgets, and best practices.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Biology, Chemistry or related discipline required.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in leading/supporting clinical systems projects and support/training within an academic or private hospital/clinic environment.
  • Experience in clinical systems (EHR), information technology, project management and demonstrated knowledge and track record in clinical systems support, and training.
  • Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the education requirement.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • At least five (5) years of managerial experience required.
  • The candidate must be comfortable operating in a highly dynamic and rapidly changing environment.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database technology, electronic health records, software engineering, project management and reporting tools like crystal (or jasper) reports.
  • Outstanding human relations and leadership skills, and the ability to function in a team environment are required.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • Preference will be given to individuals who are innovative and willing to develop clinical system design, biomedicine IT process and work in collaboration with clinicians on IT projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented with a good work ethic and a team player.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and highly effective oral and written communication skills, and problem solving and multitasking skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Effective oral and communication skills.
