Job Summary
The Director of the Core Curriculum in the Office of Instructional Excellence will assist the Vice Provost for Instructional Excellence in providing support to faculty and staff around the Core Curriculum.
  • Oversees the core curriculum approved by the UCC and Senate
  • Participates on and provides leadership to the Core Curriculum Committee and revision of the Core Curriculum
  • Responsible for ensuring that appropriate numbers of courses and sections are available for students seeking to complete the core curriculum and that core courses are of high quality.
  • Work with the UCC to ensure regular review of new and continuing core curriculum courses and components and periodic review of the requirements themselves.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Research and Assessment to ensure that regular assessment of the core curriculum takes place.
  • Work with the Office of Instructional Excellence to develop professional development opportunities for faculty teaching core courses.
  • Serve as an advocate for and source of information about core curriculum for students, faculty, and the larger CSU community.
  • Collaborate with Cleveland State University’s Ohio Department of Higher Education liaison in helping faculty respond to requests from the state regarding TAG’s, OTM and other transfer-related matters.

This is a 12-month appointment (51% administrative) and will be reviewed each year with an anticipated three-year term.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be a CSU Faculty member holding one of the following ranks: Associate Professor with tenure, Associate Clinical Professor with tenure, Full Professor, Full Clinical Professor, Associate College Lecturer, Senior College Lecturer, Association Professor of Practice, or Full Professor of Practice.
  • Teaching experience in general education courses;
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in undergraduate teaching;
  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues of diversity and equity in higher education; and
  • Excellent interpersonal as well as oral/written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Record of research related to core curriculum courses and programs;
  • Previous leadership role(s) at department, college, or university levels;
  • Experience related to disciplinary or core curriculum;
  • Experience working with the Ohio Department of Higher Education; and
  • Ability to foster productive, collaborative relationships.
