The Director of Compensation is responsible for providing strategic vision and leadership in the development, evaluation, documentation, and implementation of best-in-class compensation strategies and programs for The Ohio State University. Leveraging their expertise in compensation principles, practices, and theories and through partnering with university leadership, they will work to identify, design, and recommend market competitive compensation solutions that support the organization’s ability to attract, motivate and retain employees. They will work to ensure and provide related analytics for competitive, equitable, and scalable solutions across base and variable compensation for staff and executive positions that are aligned with the organization’s short and long-term strategic goals and objectives. The Director partners with various technology and business process resources to implement compensation solutions that are delivered through the day-to-day operations of the Compensation Consulting Team.

Responsibilities :

  • Provides strategic oversight and direction on the research and preparation for job evaluations and developing salary ranges that are internally equitable and externally competitive. (20%)

  • Evaluates campus staff salaries and provides recommendations for benchmarks, hiring ranges, and adjusted rates of pay prepared through the HR Compensation team. (20%)

  • Analyzes market data to identify compensation trends to help inform and develop strategies that ensure external competitiveness. (20%)

  • Works closely with Human Resources and University leadership to implement strategic, comprehensive staffing reviews for campus academic and business units. (10%)

  • In partnership with HR Talent Acquisition and Business Partners, the Director will provide strategic and operational direction on the development of career- pathing tools to communicate position requirements and skills needed for advancement in specific areas. (10%)

  • Proactively develops and provides operational oversight for compensation policies and practices that align with organizational goals and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws. (10%)

  • Participates in university project and committee work, as needed, to identify and deliver strategies that meet business objectives. (10%)

Required Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

10 years of relevant experience required.

Desired Education/Experience:

Advanced Degree

15 or more years of relevant experience
