The University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for Director, Community Relations for UHealth initiatives.

The Director, Community Relations - UHealth develops community relations strategies and executes initiatives for the purpose of brand activation and patient, community, and stakeholder engagement. The incumbent also assumes responsibility for ensuring that the UHealth brand and all of its key leaders are presented positively and accurately, in accordance with the Health System’s strategies. This role collaborates with marketing leadership to ensure the alignment of marketing goals for UHealth and the University.

Core Job Functions

  • Serves as the primary liaison between the Health System and external community groups by managing communications, meetings, and activities between both parties.

  • Advances a positive image of the Health System and effectively communicates its goals, programs, and mission to external stakeholders.

  • Identifies and proactively pursues opportunities with external groups based on the Health System’s business goals and strategic plan.

  • Initiates, conducts, and facilitates meetings with identified individuals, groups, and health system leadership for the purposes of strategic collaboration.

  • Collaborates regularly with the Office of the General Counsel, Office of Government Affairs, and other internal departments to address and manage community- related issues.

  • Identifies and secures key opportunities for the participation of health system leadership in select Boards, community forums, and events to advance strategic goals.

  • Plans, schedules, and hosts select internal and external community forums.

  • Forms and leads the Community Sponsorship Advisory Group to evaluate and discuss sponsorship opportunities and requests.

  • Works with marketing leadership to develop and manage the community sponsorship budget.

  • Maintains and distributes a master community calendar listing key events where the Health System is to have presence.

  • Develops quarterly reports detailing community activations and future opportunities for leadership.

  • Works collaboratively with the internal colleagues and outside vendors to support marketing and business goals.

  • Participates in external Boards and programs of key community groups.

  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. 

  • Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                         

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Health Care Management, Communications, or related field.

  • Master’s degree preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of five years of relevant community relations or related experience in a leadership role.

  • Healthcare experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Strategic and analytical thinking.

  • Excellent presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially creating PowerPoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets.

  • Deep familiarity with local market and its consumers.

  • Established relationships with key community groups and leaders for tri-county area/assigned region.

  • Adept in understanding and communicating healthcare business strategy and healthcare market trends.

  • Demonstrates and maintains professionalism in both communications and appearance, strong interpersonal skills, leadership, and ethics as an external representative of the health system.

  • Must be flexible with working and being available early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.

  • Spanish proficiency preferred given the local and target market areas of UHealth outreach and footprint.

Department Specific Functions

Maintains a deep insight into community groups and external stakeholders in the assigned region and makes recommendations on strategic approaches.  Elevates the health system brand and internal constituents to business and industry groups, chambers of commerce, associations, municipalities (as assigned), and other designated entities. Develops and submits activity reports, presentations, and post-event reviews at the required cadence (weekly, monthly, etc.) as per the supervisor’s direction. Adheres to departmental budgetary guidelines and seeks prior approval for community engagement activities from direct supervisor. Serves as spokesperson at community events representing the health system in a professional manner, as well as delivering introductory/ closing remarks as needed. Maintains in-depth knowledge of the health system in order to accurately and thoroughly inform the community regarding UHealth and its services, technologies and research offerings. Organizes talking points and media training for key spokespeople, with supervisor input and direction, to ensure consistent messaging on critical topics. Manages social media initiatives at on-site community engagements and provides support to social media team as needed with promoting and enhancing the health system’s brand and vision. Supports brand activation events and collaborates with the brand activations team as needed. Tri-county travel required to neighboring cities and UHealth/SCCC/BPEI satellites including but not limited to Doral, Plantation, Aventura, Naples, West Palm Beach, and areas where UHealth has footprint. Regional travel may be required. Other duties as assigned.
