This position is considered remote, 0-1 days onsite at 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA each week. DFCI guidelines state that employees must reside in New England: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, or Vermont.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Director, Community Fundraising, is responsible for management, strategy, and oversight of the Jimmy Fund's Community Fundraising Program and Jimmy Fund Golf. These programs raise on average $10M annually through 350+ events run by volunteer event managers and supported by Jimmy Fund staff. Responsible for assisting the entire Division with reaching financial goals.
The onboarding of this role will include a comprehensive training process which includes completion of online modules, shadowing colleagues, as well as hands-on learning experiences throughout the first calendar year in the role.

Dana-Farber is currently undertaking an ambitious fundraising effort to change the future of cancer research and care: The Dana-Farber Campaign. This multibillion-dollar campaign is the largest in the Institute's history and one of the largest ever in the U.S. focused solely on cancer. Philanthropy raised through The Dana-Farber Campaign is focused on accelerating the Institute's strategic priorities by supporting revolutionary science, extraordinary care, exceptional expertise, and essential opportunities-helping us prevent, treat, and Defy Cancer.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Management
- Oversee The Jimmy Fund's community fundraising event (CFE) program and streaming portfolio of 250+ events and on average $3.5M in revenue annually; oversee Jimmy Fund Golf program or 150 tournaments and on average $6.5M in revenue annually.
- Manage a team of 9 staff members.
- Manage a budget of $230K+.
Community Fundraising Program:
- Develop and execute the prospect management strategy for the CFE program to best increase volunteer event manager's giving and engagement.
- Develop and execute the new business and retention strategy for the program to grow the program's bottom-line year over year.
- Directly manage a portfolio of community fundraising volunteers, prospects, and event revenue.
- Train staff on frontline fundraising techniques to maximize engagement and revenue among community fundraisers.
Special Programs:
- Oversee Jimmy Fund Let's Game streaming program by developing and executing strategy to engage the streaming community with Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund. Responsible for securing and stewarding key partnerships in the gaming and streaming space.
- Oversee the growth of the Junior Jimmy Fundraiser initiative to engage the next generation of Jimmy Fund supporters.
- Oversee the Run Any Race program and encourage runners to participate in existing races across the country in support of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund.
Team Support:
- Support the Community Fundraising and Partnerships team as needed including staffing events and supporting the Assistant Vice President with special projects as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports to Assistant Vice President, Community Fundraising and Partnerships. Oversees one Associate Director, three Assistant Directors, three Officers, a Program Coordinator, and one Assistant. The position is programmatic in nature and a considerable amount of autonomy in decision-making and completing work-related tasks is required.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree required. Minimum of eight (8) years' experience in professional fundraising and events management or equivalent experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Organized and detail oriented with excellent written and oral communication skills; possess the ability to work well with DFCI departments and donor/volunteer constituencies; problem solving skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects and work independently in a fast-paced environment. Strong word processing and Excel skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office are required.
PATIENT CONTACT:
Interaction with patients as third-party event managers and/or presenters at events.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Remote work flexibility (0-1 days onsite each week). Some travel, attending events as well as off-site volunteer committee meetings on a regular basis. Speak on behalf of Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund at several events. Requires light lifting for event set-up. Weekend and night work is required occasionally.
