Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
This position is located in Rockville, MD at The Universities at Shady Grove (USG).

The Universities at Shady Grove (USG) is a unique, highly successful regional higher education center developed as a part of the University System of Maryland. The USG campus offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs from nine Maryland public universities on one convenient campus in Montgomery County.

At the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) campus, the Director, Center for Counseling & Well-being provides overall leadership and coordination of the USG Center for Counseling & Well-being.
This is an exciting opportunity to not only oversee the ongoing viability of the Center but to realize the vision of incorporating the USG campus recreation center, and the establishment and development of other well-being services (e.g., nutrition counseling, massage therapy, and spiritual growth).
The Center for Counseling & Well-being is not affiliated with, and operates independently of, the Counseling Center at the University of Maryland College Park.

Minimum Qualifications:
Required Education and Licensure:
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, counseling, or marriage and family therapy.
  • Licensed mental health professional in Maryland, or licensed in another state and must become a licensed mental health professional in Maryland within three (3) calendar months of hire.

Required Experience:
  • Ten (10) years of experience in a college counseling center, university counseling center, or mental health setting.
  • Experience providing clinical services. four (4) years of supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to establish objectives for the CCW based on the strategic goals of USG.
  • Ability to envision and implement the future development of the CCW, in both the counseling and wellness areas.
  • Skill in identifying problems, analyzing causes, and conceptualizing and implementing relevant solutions.
  • Ability to forge productive relationships with others (internal and external) in carrying out programs and services for members of the campus community.
  • Knowledge and understanding of cultural and individual differences, and the ability to work successfully with others.
  • Skills as a broad-based generalist mental health provider trained in:
    • methods of observation, assessment, and program evaluation;
    • counseling theory;
    • group interaction, consultation, organizational development, and mediation;
    • advocacy and decision-making skills;
    • remedial, preventive, developmental and crisis intervention approaches;
    • psycho-educational models based on knowledge of the biological, cognitive and social basis of behavior;
    • cultural and individual differences.
Preferences:
Preferences:
  • Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology; Clinical Psychology; or Counselor Education from an accredited college or university.
  • Clinical supervisory experience in a clinical setting including supervision of clinical trainees, knowledge, and relevant experience in the areas of clinical training and supervision.
  • Experience in a university or college counseling center or in a higher education environment.
  • Experience in, and an understanding of, career development and the provision of career counseling services.
