The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.


Position Summary

The Director of Career Placement provides management and leadership to the career placement and employer relations functions of the IEOR Department, including the branding and placing of the Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR) M.S. students in full-time positions and internships. The Director will manage the entire Career Management Team, with its primary goal of placing its graduate population, including MS and PhD. The goal is to obtain as high of a placement rate (100%) as possible for the Departmental programs. This role will broaden and deepen relationships with employers, alumni, and industry partners to improve placement outcomes; the Director also needs to establish relationships with employers and industry partners to foster collaboration between faculty members and graduate students (both MS and Ph.D.).


Responsibilities

  • (50%) Student Placement:
    • Support placement of IEOR M.S. students from all MS Programs in full-time positions and/or internships.  Assist with B.S. and Ph.D. placement as needed.  To achieve this goal, the office may engage in the following activities:
    • Establish, cultivate new, and maintain relationships with employers to encourage the hiring of students.
    • Maintain and foster partnerships for placement and consulting engagements for coursework where applicable
    • Create new programs/initiatives and strategies to promote hiring and placement
    • Cultivate Alumni relationships and back-up for SEAS Alumni development requests and liaise between the Department, School, and University concerning career placement needs and trends.
  • (30%) Employer, Faculty & Staff Relations:
    • Set and manage the best practices for the Career Placement area, including execution, communication, and maintenance of all functions
    • Establish relationships with employers and industry partners to foster collaboration between faculty and MS students
    • Partner with Career Team and Events Coordinator to set up student/alumni socials and events for networking and student engagement
    • Host various academic and student affairs special events and activities, including Alumni Roundtable, Mentoring, Employer Info Sessions, etc.
    • Strategize with Faculty on improving Career Placement goals and ideas for various IEOR MS Programs
    • Lead, manage, develop/mentor, and delegate responsibilities and tasks to the Career Placement Team
    • Serve as a point of contact for SEAS Career Placement Officers and other projects as requested
  • (15%) Reporting and Advisement:
    • Collect/analyze placement statistics for the entire Department; generate reports for admissions, recruiting, etc. Advise in admissions with respect to career placement of our incoming MS class.  Participate in yield events to attract the new cohort.
  • (5%) Other related duties, as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree is required; graduate-level work is preferred. A minimum of 4-6 years of student and Career Placement related experience is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze trends in the academic process.
  • Understanding of industry target market for consulting, management, and technology job markets as is previous experience in career counseling, marketing, workshop planning or administration.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and administrative skills, as well as strong skills in written and oral expression. The ability to manage and cultivate a team is a must.
  • Understand career development issues affecting the constituents (Engineering) and the associated professions.
  • Able to identify and analyze trends in the associated professions.
  • Computer literacy/proficiency required: an understanding and appreciation of career services database software and online resources, and the willingness to respond to the needs of students and employers in an increasingly technologically oriented society. Proficiency with Google suite of products, MS Office, publishing software, etc.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and tactfully with staff, faculty, students, employers, and alumni—excellent command of English (verbal and written).
  • Positive, mission-oriented, forward-thinking attitude and sense of humor a must.
