Essential functions (job duties):

Job Purpose

Provide vision, strategy, and leadership for all aspects of the comprehensive campaign planning and implementation, case statement development, campaign reporting and monitoring of goals for the School of Medicine (SOM) Development team. Works in close collaboration with the Campaign Directors. This position reports to the Associate Vice President, Development, and School of Medicine Advancement under Development and Alumni Affairs.

Essential Function

Lead the planning, design, and coordination of the comprehensive campaign for the School of Medicine. Collaborate with the Associate VP-SOM, AVP Individual Giving and WSU Campaign Director, and division leadership on campaign strategies, leadership recruitment, fundraising goals, and campaign evaluation.

Collaborate with Associate VP-SOM, AVP Individual Giving and WSU Campaign Director, dean, department chairs and faculty to identify fundraising needs and priorities to develop case statements and other campaign materials. Collaborate with direct and indirect reports to develop major gift fundraising plans and strategies; establish realistic and achievable timelines and goals. 

Monitor and update the SOM campaign plan and prepare regular progress reports on completion status of campaign tasks. Track and report on progress against fundraising goals and priorities. 

Maintain a major gift portfolio of approximately 50-75 high-level donors for whom you will be responsible to cultivate and solicit.

Identify and recruit volunteers to participate on committees for specific projects and solicitations; train volunteers on appropriate cultivation and solicitation methods, techniques, and processes; provide oversight of volunteer board to ensure School of Medicine, division and university missions are attained.

Supervise a diverse staff, effectively managing performance to meet individual and team initiatives; foster a collegial and highly productive work environment. Recruit, interview, hire, train, coach, evaluate, and discipline staff. Establish and communicate performance expectations in a manner that motivates and empowers staff to fulfill job duties. Encourage, support, and ensure employee participation in training and development programs.

Manage annual expense budget. Develop fundraising goals and expense projections, approve expenditures at unit level and monitor transactions for compliance with university policies and procedures.

Remain current with fundraising trends and industry best practices and serve as a resource to identify successful development activities and implement necessary changes.

Minimum Qualifications

Education   Bachelor's degree

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in marketing, public relations, business administration or related field. Master's degree preferred.

Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) preferred

Extensive knowledge, understanding and experience with university policies and procedures
