Position Summary
Position is responsible for managing and directing the financial affairs of all financial and system support activities within the Department of Pediatrics including management of accounting and finance personnel.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepares, creates, coordinates and prioritizes financial operations for the entire Department operating budget.
  • Continuously monitors, directs and analyzes financial performance.
  • Oversees the process for annual budget preparation as well as monthly and quarterly financial reporting.
  • Performs financial analysis on a variety of projects as requested by leadership.
  • Coordinates with the Office of Budgeting and Finance and Office of Program and Finance Planning in analyzing financial issues related to the Department.
  • Provides expertise and guidance to Leadership in ensuring compliance with operating budget, salary guidelines, University policies and procedures and Department policies and procedures.
  • Compiles annual Operating and Maintenance Expense Report.
  • Develops standard practices and procedures for finance.
  • Creates a comprehensive system for administering the financial requirements for budgeting and reporting.
  • Supervises finance office staff including monitoring performance, management and allocation of workload, conducting evaluations and recruitment/hiring.
  • Oversees department service agreements and contracts and reconciles expenses to establish annual rate structure.
  • Participates as needed in the negotiation of various agreements including service, clinical, and research areas.
  • Conducts regular reviews of contracts to ascertain opportunities to renegotiate.
  • Manages centralized collections, purchasing, and disbursements.
  • Reviews and approves regular operating budget transactions and capital asset (plant fund) transactions. Reviews and approves all budget adjustments made by the Department.
  • Reviews and develops rate structures for various “charge-back” services.
  • Represents the Department on committees within the School of Medicine and the University.


Preferred Qualifications

    • Master's degree and Certified Public Accountant/Certified Managerial Accountant preferred.
    • Ability to analyze and resolve highly difficult problems, to integrate information from multiple sources, to utilize creative thinking and to exercise considerable judgment and resourcefulness.
    • Experience in an automated/integrated data processing environment, computer and network literate.
    • Demonstrates understanding of generally accepted account principles, not-for-profit entities and particularly institutions of higher learning and of a clinical and research-oriented organization.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, organization, management and supervisory skills.
    • Diplomacy and confidentiality due to highly sensitive information utilized or accessed.
    • Strong commitment to customer service and understanding of alignment with the mission of the Department of Pediatrics and the School of Medicine.


    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
    • At least seven years of experience in a financial, accounting, budgeting, auditing, or planning function with a minimum of five years of experience supervising three or more personnel.

    Salary Range
    $102,900.00 - $181,100.00 / Annually

    The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
