JOB SUMMARY


Under strategic direction, the Director Business Management is responsible for the planning, implementation and execution of business, financial and workforce related activities in support of the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR), Taylor Geospatial Institute (TGI), and the Research Institute (RI).    


ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • ​​Drives the development and implementation of division strategy in conjunction with division leadership. Leads division efforts to ensure timeliness and efficiency of operations in the processing of business, financial and workforce planning budget requests, justifications, expenses, and revisions.   ​
  • ​​Provides strategic budget planning addressing all aspects of the division’s budget including budget development and assuring fiscal activities comport to budget. Performs financial modeling, forecasting and resources planning to support Division’s growth model, solvency and accountability. Develops and administers financial processes and policies, monitors revenues, financial and personnel expenses in accordance with regulatory/auditable protocol.  ​
  • ​​Manages financial accounts; reviews and maintains financial records; assures accurate and timely reporting on fiscal activities; oversees purchasing and cash handling.​
  • ​​Develops and implements strategic, long, and short-term plans to assure unit fiscal growth, solvency, and accountability; analyzes unit accounting and cash handling.​
  • ​​Collaborates with other administrative personnel and outside agencies for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and programs in accordance with established university policies, practices, laws and regulatory guidelines.​
  • Develops financial reporting for OVPR, TGI, and RI for university leadership and key stakeholders, including trustees and donors.
  • Develops staffing plans with division leadership in coordination with division objectives and University policies and procedures. Accountable for timely, accurate and compliant business process transactions in university systems to support the full employment lifecycle (requisitions, job changes, salary adjustments, performance management process, and terminations).
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  • Knowledge of accounting, information and HCM systems with a preference for previous experience working with Workday system  
  • Knowledge of higher education processes and systems preferred  
  • Ability to promote harmonious working relationships with and among staff and faculty   
  • Must be comfortable leading, developing and evaluating subordinate team members  
  • Knowledge of accounting, budgeting and forecasting  
  • Ability to accurately model the financial aspects and outcomes of business issues using spreadsheets and/or other applicable tools  
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail  
  • Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data, reports and documents  
  • Strong proficiency in use of Microsoft Office including advanced level Excel and PowerPoint skills  
  • Comfortable working in system databases and other software systems  
  • Ability to function independently, with appropriate initiative, creativity, and attention to detail  
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement in complex situations  
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and shift priorities  
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Bachelor’s degree in business administration or accounting; supplemented with six (6) years of progressively responsible, related management experience, master’s degree in business administration (MBA) or CPA preferred.
