Overview

NYU has an exciting role as the Director, Athletics, Intramurals and Recreation for NYU's Washington Square/Brooklyn campus. Reporting to the Senior Vice President for University Life, this role serves as a member of the Division of Student Affairs senior management team. In this role, the Director sets the direction for the department within the context of NYUâ™s mission and values. Emphasizing enhancement of the Universityâ™s educational goals, the Director provides leadership, supervision, and motivation for department administrators and staff as they support the needs of the University athletics community. The Director establishes the vision and standards of measurable excellence in intercollegiate athletics, club sports, intramurals, recreation, and facility operations in consultation with the Senior Vice President for University Life. The Director formulates, implements, and guides department-level policy and provides administration and financial management for the department in consultation with University partners. The Director effectively develops and communicates the department mission, vision and goals, and develops successful plans and proposals for Senior Vice President for University Life, on behalf of the department, reflecting the mission and vision of the Division of Student Affairs. The Director sets the standards for best practices in all areas of the department, including effective management and stewardship of departmental resources and facilities, attaining a high degree of community satisfaction with Athletics department programs in consultation with department administrators, coaches, and staff. The Director works collaboratively and with innovation with other departmental leaders in the Division of Student Affairs and campus partners with NYUâ™s schools and academic centers to contribute to student success.

The Director is expected to: Oversee the operations of club sports, the twelve month intramural program, the non-credit recreation course program, and the operations, strategic development, and maintenance of all NYU owned athletic centers within the Washington Square/Brooklyn campus footprint; Identify and maintain multi-faceted external business relationships to lease over 30 additional facilities including all outdoor athletics facilities; Recruit and cultivate varsity coaching staff at the highest nationally competitive level; Guide and mentor all athletic department staff with open conversation, collaboration, and understanding of both the student athlete experience and the benefits of fitness, health, and wellbeing for all students; Strategically define and communicate departmental needs and institutional goals as part of an intentional and sustainable operational plan; Develop the Emergency Preparedness planning and response on behalf of the Division of Student Affairs.

Responsibilities

Required Experience:
10+ years senior management experience in a comprehensive intercollegiate athletic program. Extensive knowledge of Student Affairs in a major research university environment including significant experience in strategic, budget, financial and facility oversight and planning.
Preferred Experience:
A senior management position in Athletics and Student Life.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations. Must possess exceptional organizational and communication skills with the ability and willingness to collaborate and develop relationships within the NYU, NCAA & UAA communities. Innovative approach to problem solving and the ability to recognize, attract, hire and cultivate talented coaches and staff.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Experience with federal, state and local rules, regulations and laws governing the operation of higher education institutions, student relations and services, facilities, employees and athletics departments. Must be able to incorporate research and emergent knowledge from the national field to create a culture of continuous assessment and improvement.


Qualifications

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $225,000.00 to USD $275,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
