Description

 

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a DIRECTOR-ARTPLAY.  The Director of ArtPlay serves an essential role in assessing, developing, and refining ArtPlay programs and operations. This position is responsible for the implementation and management of all aspects of community and external engagement for ArtPlay in collaboration with the UAB Arts Alliance. The Director, working with the staff, is responsible for interpreting and executing ArtPlay's strategic goals, identifying opportunities for cross-departmental collaboration, managing a six-figure budget, and maintaining the visibility of ArtPlay. 


Responsibilities:
  • Sustain, refine, and design delivery of high-quality arts education for students, families, and lifelong learners with a balanced approach to a variety of genres, including music, visual and performing arts, dance, and more.
  • Develop, plan, and evaluate new and existing education projects and programs. Promote new ideas within the senior management team that advance UAB Arts Alliance's equitable approach to arts education experiences.
  • Plan, develop, implement, manage, and expand all existing, pilot, and envisioned programs, and set expectations, develop metrics, and define success.
  • Direct the advancement of ArtPlay's teaching artist program including selecting new artists, implementing training programs, and overseeing logistics.
  • Oversee all ArtPlay program events and experiences, classes, and camps and manage logistics of residency activities (master classes, workshops, clinics) and engagement opportunities (pre- and post-performance talks) including planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Provide vision and programming for ArtPlay. Work collaboratively with Senior Directors to review potential education and community engagement opportunities.
  • Work with the UAB Arts Alliance Executive Director to establish strategic mission and goals for ArtPlay programs and activities to include all classes, camps, workshops, and programs in lifelong learning in and through the arts.
  • Available to work evenings and weekends as necessary in support of programming.
  • Represent UAB Arts Alliance in public and professional forums, such as panels and conferences.
  • Identify prospective partnerships that advance UAB Arts Alliance's arts education goals and mission.
  • Develop and foster partnerships and relationships on and off campus and act as the educational liaison between these groups and the UAB Arts Alliance.
  • Supervise departmental team, including hiring, managing performance, and identifying professional development opportunities.
  • Coordinate educational content to be used by the UAB Arts Alliance Marketing and UAB Media Relations departments.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the department budget. Work with UAB Arts Alliance Advancement to write grant proposals to support ArtPlay programs. Responsible for providing documentation for and assisting in writing final grant reports.
  • Manage (hire, train, evaluate, and terminate) all ArtPlay personnel. Establish supportive team environment, hold routine staff meetings, attend ArtPlay program events on a regular schedule. Participate as a member of the UAB Arts Alliance senior leadership team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.  

  • (Annual Salary:  $60,835  -  $75,000)

     

    Qualifications

     

    Bachelor's degree in Education, Arts Education, Art Administration, Fine Arts Administration or a related field and five (5) years of related experience. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
