Job Summary
 

The Director of Analytics & Business Intelligence is responsible for overseeing three key knowledge management functions to advance Chicago Booth’s fundraising and alumni engagement goals: data requirements development and documentation, data management and analysis, and fundraising systems and applications support. Monitoring the integrity of the information contained in the alumni CRM, the Booth Community Directory, and related applications, they determine how to translate data into usable actionable information for the formation and execution of Chicago Booth’s fundraising and engagement strategies and measures of success.
The Director manages two specialized teams: Analytics and Data Integrity, which support the Chicago Booth Office of Advancement. These teams are comprised of alumni CRM and related systems specialists who are responsible for data entry, reporting, coding documentation, and predictive analysis. The Analytics and Data Integrity teams serve as a help desk for custom queries and alumni data requests.
The Director works closely with all Chicago Booth Office of Advancement department leads to ensure that the department’s use of the alumni CRM supports our fundraising and engagement objectives. In addition, they serve as a liaison between Chicago Booth Office of Advancement and the University Alumni Relations & Development IT and reporting teams, Chicago Booth IT, and Chicago Booth Marketing for all alumni data requests.
The Director sets department goals and standards for reporting and data integrity, and participates in high-level and interdepartmental projects. They provide strategic insight and cross-program analyses, and make recommendations to optimize resources throughout Chicago Booth.
The Director develops and audits business processes for anticipating and meeting Chicago Booth’s needs. They play a critical role in leading staff training related to alumni data, ensuring that all team members have a solid understanding of fundraising and programs, strategies, and information systems.

Responsibilities

  • Continually accumulates knowledge within multiple University databases and applications, working to define the nature of data usage by Chicago Booth Advancement staff.
  • Directly influences the culture of fundraising and alumni engagement at Chicago Booth by upholding a standard of practice and assessment that is driven by data.
  • Applies sophisticated knowledge and skills in the use and manipulation of data to support fundraising and other critical operations at Chicago Booth.
  • Defines, designs, and updates a diverse set of reports and data visualizations based on the needs of senior staff, fundraisers, and various Chicago Booth offices to support targeted strategic purposes, both on a regular and ad hoc basis.
  • Interprets requests, understand the business need, and design and deliver effective products tailored for each target audience. Ensures that decision-makers are aware of the risks and limitations of data, information, and analyses provided.
  • Presents analyses and information to small and large groups and speaks succinctly about interpretation and recommendations.
  • Works and communicates with a wide range of people, executive and senior management, program directors, public and private sector colleagues, vendors, and partners, to develop and deliver products and services to achieve Chicago Booth’s strategic program goals.
  • Monitors the maintenance and analysis of information in the alumni CRM. Advises senior staff on best practices for data maintenance and policy matters and manages the training of Chicago Booth Office of Advancement staff to ensure implementation and accuracy.
  • Collaborates on data-related projects with Advancement colleagues, other Chicago Booth departments, and University Alumni Relations & Development counterparts.
  • Serves as a Booth representative on University Alumni Relations & Development data committees, charged with representing Chicago Booth's concerns in high-level policy discussions.
  • Serves as the alumni data governance subject matter expert, liaising with the Director of Data Governance & Stewardship at Chicago Booth and counterparts in University Alumni Relations & Development.
  • Communicates on and solves reporting and database problems, serving as a liaison between Advancement staff, the alumni CRM team, Booth IT, and Booth Marketing.
  • Manages managers and professional staff. Establishes performance goals, allocates resources and assesses policies for direct subordinates.
  • Sets annual and long-term activity goals and short-term operating plans for development research programs. Develops and manages the annual operating budget.
  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Experience:

  • Prior experience in a related field developing data reports.
  • Prior experience in a fundraising and alumni relations support role or related function.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with standard statistical practices and tools and excellent analytical and quantitative skills, including ability to manipulate, analyze, and interpret data and statistical models.
  • Excellent database skills, the ability to achieve expert status on standard and proprietary databases, and flexibility in working with new programs in an emerging and changing environment.
  • Proficiency with the Windows environment and standard MS Office suite.
  • Familiarity with Tableau Business Intelligence software, Marketo, Cvent, and/or Salesforce platforms.
