Job Description

Facilities Development and Management seeks a Director to plan, organize, and direct the activities of Administrative Services, which delivers administrative and human resources services to a diverse Facilities Development and Management workforce in the areas of talent acquisition, talent management, employee relations, performance management, compensation and classification, time and attendance, salary planning, organizational development, leaves management and data management.

Essential Duties

  • Oversee the provision of administrative and human resources services to a diverse group of employees in Facilities Development and Management (Facilities Management, Capital Programs Management Group, Office of the University Architect, Business Operations, Asset Management, Administrative Services, and Energy Innovations). 
  • Direct and oversee department administrative and human resources programs and projects in advancement of department and university goals. 
  • Work collaboratively to advance a culture and environment of employee development and positive employee relations. Advise and consult with leaders regarding complex and highly sensitive employee relations issues through resolution. Determine and facilitate appropriate consistent corrective action and discipline. 
  • Direct department talent acquisition and talent management strategies in alignment with department culture and goals, and university guidelines.
  • Provide department compensation and classification guidance, and develop, implement and direct practices that promote equity, retention and engagement. 
  • Oversee through subordinate staff department time and attendance functions including payroll processing, position management, and salary planning/budget processes.
  • Consult with leaders in the design and redesign of department organizational structure to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develop, maintain and implement department policies and procedures to align with university policies and other pertinent governing agencies. Interpret, apply and advise department leadership on pertinent rules, regulations, policies and procedures set forth by the university or other governing agencies. 
  • Work collaboratively with department leadership and staff from university departments including the Office of Human Resources, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the Office of General Counsel, and University Audit and Advisory Services, and external agencies. 
  • Plan and implement data collection, management and analysis, including metrics and key performance indicators. Prepare complex reports, documents, and correspondence involving performance measures, investigations, and audits.
  • Participate in the development and execution of the strategic direction for the department, including long- and short-range goals, and objectives and activities to strategically align department with overall goals of the university. 
  • Participate in the hiring, training, evaluating, and supervising, directly and through subordinate supervisors, all unit staff, and direct measures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of Administrative Services. 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND eight (8) years of related administrative experience, which includes five (5) years of supervisory experience; OR, Twelve (12) years of related administrative experience, which includes five (5) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions. Drive University vehicles.

DAYS AND SCHEDULE:  Monday – Friday; 8:00am-5:00 p.m.

This position is located at the University Services Building, 1551 S. Rural Road, Tempe, AZ (on Rural Road south of Apache Blvd). 

This position requires that you must possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment.  Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.
