Job Description

The Director of Accounting & Finance, College of Medicine and Office of Health Sciences leads and oversees the general accounting and financial operations and procurement team providing monthly financial reporting, general ledger system support, capital expenditure and fixed asset management and financial analysis.  This position is responsible for developing and maintaining processes and systems which interface and support other teams within Finance Shared Services, such as budgeting, cost accounting, and decision support. Total of 7 direct reports.

Position Summary
Financial Operations oversees the financial and accounting operations of the unit including the following fiscal services: financial systems, reporting and internal controls, policies and regulations. Develops and maintains the unit budget system and budgetary policies. Supports the unit in budget preparation, forecasting, identifying and implementing strategic initiatives. Oversees the general ledger, the preparation of unit financial reports, and performs financial analysis. Responsible for the recording of revenue and accounts receivable including: billing customers and processing payments, record keeping, responding to customer inquiries related to account status, and the aging and write-off of receivables. Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the physical assets of the unit, which includes recording the disposal or sale of fixed assets and the coordination of physical inventories. Organizes internal audit responses.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Level Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or equivalent combination of education and experience required; Master’s degree and CPA certification preferred; minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in general accounting, budget planning including experience in higher education required; previous experience in a finance leadership role strongly desired, preferable in academic medical center.
