Position Summary

The Director of Academic Technologies is responsible for creating a vision, prioritizing and implementing the Academic Technology services and staffing needed to support the educational missions of the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). Reporting areas include, but not limited to, Academic Technologies, NETEC, and Instructional Technologist for the Medical Lab Science – College of Allied Health Professions.

This executive is accountable for developing, maintaining, and communicating the resources and policies, including Information Technology (IT) support of the technology and business functions required by those programs to support UNMC’s premier educational programs.

This position will oversee the development, standardization, deployment, and management of UNMC-wide purchases of software and other information systems required for support of education programs.

Will also be responsible for the end-to-end integration of technologies to support the delivery of Academic Technology services and close coordination with Nebraska Medicine and the other University of Nebraska campuses in a highly matrixed and integrated structure.

The Director serves as the leader working with broader stakeholders to specify system requirements and to optimize systems to improve workflow, production, efficiency and effectiveness, including representing the vice chancellor of information and technology in meetings, as needed.

Required Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Candidate must hold an advanced degree and be eligible to hold a faculty appointment if not a current faculty member in an area relevant to the academic health sciences.
2. Exemplary leadership working with a variety of academic information technologies as well as strategies to assure information security, including FERPA, HIPAA and other such regulations.
3. Demonstrated leadership that exemplifies the iTEACH… Innovation, Teamwork, Excellence, Accountability, Courage and Healing
4. Demonstrate proactive leadership that will engage the university community in understanding polices as they are implemented and how to best utilize software and technologies to accomplish their overarching goals and objectives.
5. Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and expertise in the principles of information systems and articulate the role/scope of IT in an academic setting
6. Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills
7. Track record of developing and implementing dynamic strategies which achieve their objective
