The Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (CASBS) at Stanford University stimulates cutting edge social science on important societal problems. One of the hallmarks of the fellowship experience is the daily lunch program. The Center seeks an experienced candidate for the position of dining program coordinator.  The coordinator reports to the deputy director and plays a key role in the daily lunch program.  The position is the main contact for staff and fellows who participate, and works closely with the catering company that provides the lunch.  Specific tasks include administering the menu and lunch reservation system, handling of catering related supplies, equipment, food and beverages in preparation for lunch and events, replenishing and pickup of service items during lunch, breakdown and clean-up after lunch, dishwashing, performing deep cleaning tasks on a regular basis, ordering of and receiving dry goods and products, and handling invoicing for purchased goods. 

The ideal candidate is a friendly, proactive, and dependable self-starter with excellent client service, and strong interpersonal and communication skills. The role requires an individual with a high level of professionalism, productivity, and organization.  The candidate should be able to work independently and in a team setting, and must be customer oriented.  


This is a fixed-term (August 2024 - July 2025), 80% FTE, benefits-eligible position. The standard schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 7:30 am - 3:00 pm, with a 30-minute lunch break. There may be occasional extended hours for event support. This position will be based at CASBS on the Stanford campus. For consideration, please submit a resume. POSITION SUMMARY:

CORE DUTIES:

  • Provide functional coordination for the activities of foodservice workers, casual employees and students.
  • Be available to talk to customers, answer questions, and resolve any problems students may have in order to provide the most positive experience possible.
  • Complete opening or closing checklist depending on assignment.
  • Oversee clean up to assure that it the dining hall is properly prepared for the next shift (cleaned, restocked, proper set up).
  • Provide oversight in servery, particularly at busy times, to ensure food, plateware, silverware and glassware are kept replenished.
  • Assist to cover for absent workers due to unforeseen conditions requiring immediate response for a period of time.
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:

  • Associate degree and one year of successful experience in a customer service industry or combination of education or relevant experience.
  • A minimum of two years of prior food handling or kitchen experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • English proficiency in reading, writing, speaking.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate and provide oversight to a diverse work staff.
  • Exposure to and success with key customer service competencies, such as the ability to communicate clearly, listen, and empathize with customers while simultaneously adhering to protocols and guidelines.
  • Experience using computers in a work environment (such as email and word processing applications).

Certifications and Licenses:

  • In order to stay on top of codes and practices with sufficient food safety knowledge, the dining program coordinator must hold SERVSAFE Manager Certification, a 5-year certification for kitchen managers.  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Constantly exert well-paced mobility to move quickly to the different areas of the facility as service and production demands require.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, and perform extensive walking.
  • Occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of lifting force and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Ability to see and taste food for quality.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work flexible and demanding hours.
  • Frequently work long hours completing widely diverse duties.
  • Subjected to wet floors, temperature extremes, and excessive noise.

The expected pay range for this position is $25.00 to $29.81 per hour.
