Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Digital Marketing Specialist is responsible for developing, optimizing, and executing digital marketing strategies to support the university’s key marketing and communications priorities. Demonstrated expertise in crafting and implementing targeted digital marketing strategies, including SEM, digital display, and social media advertising, and proficiency in various analytics and tracking tools are essential. This role also requires experience in creating comprehensive marketing plans and reports to be shared with team members, campus partners, and senior leadership. The Digital Marketing Specialist plays a role in shaping the strategy for website content management for priority University of Maryland (UMD) websites, aiming to position the institution as a leading public research university.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business, analytics, computer science, or a related major.


Experience:

  • Possess a minimum of 6 years of digital marketing experience with proven results, either in-house or at an agency, with a focus on marketing, communications, and/or higher education.
  • Proficiency with digital and social media advertising platforms, including Google and YouTube Ads, Meta Business Suite/Manager and LinkedIn Campaign/Business Manager.
  • Familiarity with reporting/tracking tools, including Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, Meta Pixel/Data Source management, Google Search Console, SEO optimization platforms such as Searchmetrics, and data-driven SEO analysis.
  • Experience with CMS tools, including Drupal and Craft.
  • Experience in collaborating with cross-platform teams to implement SEO strategies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Advanced knowledge of desktop display and mobile digital marketing methodologies and best practices.
  • Ability to analyze data and identify trends to expand and optimize content.
  • Strong project manager. Highly organized with the capability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Impeccable attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to continuously learn and stay abreast of industry changes.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Capability to embrace constructive feedback and make necessary adjustments.
