Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | University Development’s purpose is to support the mission of the university by raising private resources to enhance financial support for students, faculty, programs and facilities. University Development provides leadership and centralized services to all development offices throughout the University, serving as a focal point for annual giving, application development and IT support; campaign management; constituent programs; corporate and foundation relations; donor relations; gift planning; gift services; industry relations; marketing/communications; parents giving; principal gifts; prospect management, research and analytics; regional programs; scholarships and student aid; talent management; university events; and volunteer engagement. Position Summary | The Office of University Development is looking for a Digital Marketing Manager to join a fast-paced marketing team that supports and celebrates all aspects of private giving at the University, including the University’s historic $4.25 billion fundraising campaign, the Campaign for Carolina. Reporting to the Digital Marketing Director, this role will work both collaboratively and independently to implement the marketing team’s digital marketing strategy by creating content for and managing email, digital advertising and social media campaigns, including helping to lead our integration with Salesforce Marketing Cloud and marketing automation strategies. Equally comfortable posting to social media, updating website content or diving into digital advertising campaigns, the person in this role will have a creative mind, an eye for detail and the ability to keep multiple projects on track at the same time. They will also provide ongoing analysis and reporting around our digital initiatives, and assist with the development of website content. In addition, the Digital Marketing Manager will act as a consultant on projects for University Development partners as needed, assisting with digital marketing content and strategy. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | The Digital Marketing Manager should excel at project management and have hands-on experience managing social media for a brand or organization, along with a continually updated knowledge of social media best practices. Experience building and sending email campaigns through an email marketing platform and building and managing digital advertising campaigns, or a willingness to learn, are essential. Strong written communication, presentation and analysis/reporting skills are required. Must be adaptable to changing priorities and developments and be able to use discretion to make real-time decisions about how best to represent the University. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | A bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, communications or a related field and a minimum of 2 years working in a marketing or communications role. Previous experience in higher education and/or a nonprofit setting is a plus. A working knowledge of graphic design and Adobe Creative Suite, along with experience capturing digital photography and video, is preferred. Experience working in a WordPress web content management system and understanding or writing HTML, CSS and JavaScript code is a plus. Experience working in Salesforce Marketing Cloud and/or other marketing automation systems, and experience using Google Data Studio or other data visualization tools is desirable. Knowledge of UNC-Chapel Hill’s history, traditions and mission is also a plus. |
