This position will serve as the Communications Coordinator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Broome County and under the supervision of the Associate Director of Programs, will be responsible for providing consistent graphics/marketing materials for the Association and the Taste NY program at the Southern Tier Welcome Center. Responsible for the implementation of coordinated public relations, marketing and mass media efforts for the overall Association and the Taste NY Program. The position will provide input to planning and strategic communications/marketing efforts. The individual will work with the marketing and communications team to update and maintain the Association website as well as social media platforms in a timely manner. The Communications Coordinator acts as a liaison to media contacts and sends press releases. The Communications Coordinator will market programs appropriately and create marketing materials with guidance from department supervisors. Assist with the planning, coordination and implementation of events and activities to take place at the Broome County Regional Farmers Market, Taste NY and overall Association. This position will assist with the development of marketing strategies and will promote events and activities through public relation initiatives and networking/collaborating with government, economic, educational, and agricultural organizations.

POSITION DETAILS:

This position is a part-time, non-exempt position, 30 hours per week. The hourly rate for this position is $25.00 to $28.00 commensurate with experience. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, NYS retirement, vacation, sick and personal leave.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent education (GED/High School Diploma and one year of transferrable program/functional experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Valid NYS Driver License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.bility to meet acceptable background check standards (DMV and criminal background checks).
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Proven experience with graphic design, and production of marketing materials.
  • Experience with event marketing.
  • Experience working with agricultural industries (i.e. fruit/vegetable growers, wineries, craft brewery, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively with advisory boards and committees, community and funding partners.
  • Demonstrated strong ability to utilize a variety of marketing channels to effectively target outreach for fundraisers and other events.
  • Demonstrated ability to write a marketing plan, and have effective marketing practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to do financial projects to do cost-benefit analysis via Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively participate in professional team efforts.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, community and professional leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written and visual means.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize computer technologies for educational and communication purposes (i.e. Internet, Microsoft Office Suite, etc).

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Administrative Responsibilities:

Direction - 5%

  • May provide moderately complex administrative tasks in planning for communication and marketing strategies for the Taste NY program and the Association including the Regional Farmers Market and nutrition education programming.
  • Assist in planning effective strategic external and internal communication efforts and marketing efforts to reach target audiences and meet program objectives.
  • Make recommendations for strengthening and improving marketing plans.
  • Plan mass media efforts and utilize good marketing strategies to generate appropriate public image and messaging.

Management - 30%

  • May provide moderately complex administrative management of established educational program goals as it relates to communication and/or marketing.
  • Provide substantial moderately complex administrative tasks to guide the implementation of communication strategies, both program specific and Association-wide ensuring all media and PR products comply with Cornell University Style/Branding requirements, Association imaging/branding strategies and federal compliance (EEO statements, etc.)
  • Ensure that the Association website and social media outlets contain current and timely news and information.
  • Assist with monitoring program financial status to ensure compliance with funding requirements, grant specifications, and adherence to association strategies/plan of work.
  • Assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise in the program utilizing established policies and procedures.
  • Provide low complexity administrative management of established educational program goals.
  • Provide low complexity administrative tasks in guiding the implementation of the communications budget.
  • May give guidance to staff, including those performing similar work.

Coordination/Operation - 60%

  • Create graphic materials to support the Taste NY program/Regional Farmers Market and Association.
  • Maintain social media for Taste NY at the Southern Tier Welcome Center including Facebook, Instagram and Waze.
  • Maintain communication with constituents and the community through variety of methods such as newsletters, e-mails, social media, website postings and content.
  • Under the guidance of the Associate Director, serve as liaison with community organizations for marketing and communications.
  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of events and activities at the Broome County Regional Farmers Market.
  • Assist with coordination, and promotion of events and activities at Taste NY, Broome County Regional Farmers Market through public relation initiatives.
  • Provide information as requested to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board and others as necessary.
  • Attend and participate in CCE monthly systems communicators meetings.
  • Research, implement, and evaluate new forms of outreach and assistance to connect to the community.
  • Maintain Association, Taste NY and Regional Farmers Market website and social media platforms. 
  • This position may require the transport of program participants and/or program materials and resources in performing position responsibilities.

Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other duties as assigned.
