Job Description

The Provost and Enrollment Strategic Communications team is seeking  Digital Engagement Specialists to join a dynamic team of creative storytellers who design impactful, empathy-driven communication experiences that help students and their families build meaningful relationships with the university.
Candidates will be responsible for building, testing and deploying email and SMS communications with a keen eye for detail. Additionally, they will be coordinating with colleagues and leaders to meet tight deadlines and develop strategies to meet University objectives.
Successful candidates will have a diverse set of skills including knowledge of database management and query building, planning strategy, email and SMS delivery best practices and project management.

Essential Duties

  • Builds dynamic and highly personalized outbound digital messages and performs thorough testing and control checks prior to deploying email and SMS text message campaigns. 
  • Works in collaboration with communication managers and CRM team to define data elements, troubleshoot complex list segmentation and queries to ensure digital communications are sending to the right audience. 
  • Analyzes campaign effectiveness in collaboration with the email marketing manager, communication managers and/or designers to optimize digital messaging and document best practices and emerging trends. 
  • Researches and maintains a solid understanding of industry best practices, trends and data privacy laws related to digital marketing, execution and deployment with a primary focus on SMS and email marketing and provides recommendations and guidance.
  • Conducts research and testing to optimize emails for deliverability, mobile rendering, open rates and other key metrics. 
  • Tracks daily build and send activities and reports progress through a project management system (JIRA).

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment and two (2) years of related experience: OR, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.  Demonstrated experience in writing and editing online content.


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with email marketing software with a preference for Salesforce Marketing Cloud. 
  • Experience with deploying communications through SMS platforms. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of coding languages including HTML, CSS, SQL, AMPScript, Java or JavaScript. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of email best practices and global standards including CAN-SPAM, CASL and university privacy policies. 
  • Experience utilizing databases with a preference for Salesforce CRM. 
  • Experience in translating complex strategies and ideas into actionable email and SMS campaign designs. 
  • Experience in thinking analytically, creatively and holistically in a high-volume, fast-paced environment with quickly changing priorities. 
  • Experience using creative tools including Google Docs and Slides, Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Illustrator. 
  • Experience in using strong attention to detail and accuracy. 

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions

Reporting to the Vice President of Enrollment Management and Services at ASU, the role of the Provost and Enrollment Strategic Communications team is to execute multi-channel communications strategies that help the university achieve its enrollment goals at the undergraduate and graduate levels and support in the retention of current students at the university. The unit is responsible for developing and executing targeted messaging and storytelling to a wide range of audiences including prospective undergraduates, transfer students, graduate students, international students, students with veteran status and family members who support their college-going students.
