Department Description

This is a full-time, career position with an end date of June 30, 2027, for funding purposes only. The Rover Resource Center is funded through a PHS contract with the California Department of Public Health, Tobacco Prevention Program (CTPP). Supervised by the Academic Program Management Officer, this position is responsible for creating and maintaining website content to meet the information and resource needs of the various CTPP grantees throughout the State. Specific duties include but are not limited to creating digital content including bibliographic records and writing abstracts; assisting users to utilize the website to meet their information needs (e.g., referrals, reference, research, literature searches, citation services); and working with an advisory group to develop a content management plan for resources and materials developed by CTPP and funded projects. Contact with resource center users is primarily through e-mail, text, and telephone.

This position may be a hybrid work opportunity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Science or a related field and/or equivalent experience or training.
  • Experience in creating new website content through abstracting and indexing, and writing/creating e-publications and marketing materials.
  • Experience providing public/customer service to users of a complex, information-rich website(s).
  • Experience with database list management, organizing/maintaining accounts, records, and/or files.
  • Experience compiling data for reports and spreadsheets.
  • Experience and ability to research information and prepare reports
  • Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of design and user experience, including skill to design in an appealing, lively, and relevant way.
  • Thorough knowledge of content management systems and/or relevant web applications used for web production and organization-specific computer application programs.
  • Competency and ability to use a personal computer and various computer software (HTML, Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop) and web-based information/database systems, Microsoft Office, and social media tools
  • Consistent attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize work, handle multiple tasks, and adapt to changing needs.
  • Ability to show initiative and work independently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Information Science preferred, or equivalent experience and education which would include demonstrated experience and competency in digital content creation and information management.
  • Experience working with Tobacco Control including experience providing resources, services and training in a virtual environment.

Special Requirements

  • Occasional local, state and out-of-state travel may be required.
