Job Description

The Digital Communications Specialist supports the communication and marketing functions of the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the development and deployment of social media strategies and the curation of content for social media and website use. The position entails cultivating content to maintain and enhance the strategic online presence of the Institute, monitor and report social media and website analytics, contribute to Institute-wide digital communication efforts, and assist with miscellaneous needs related to the capture of audio/video/photographic content in support of the Institute’s communications and marketing departments.

Essential Duties

  • Helps develop and execute social media strategies.
  • Helps maintain a social media and website content calendar.
  • Attends events to conduct real-time social media promotion.
  • Researches trends and innovations in digital marketing.
  • Researches and develops brand specific and strategic content for targeted distribution over the Office of the President social media channels.
  • Analyzes social media and Web analytics, and helps generate performance reports. 
  • Engages with marketing and communications representatives across ASU academic and business units to source content.
  • Contributes to the development and execution of social media advertising strategies.
  • Maintains and adheres to the ASU Office of the President brand voice and tone.
  • Assists with capturing video/audio/photographic content as needed (personally or w/ a vendor).
  • Helps facilitate transcription and storage of digital assets as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment and two (2) years of related experience: OR, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.  Demonstrated experience in writing and editing online content.


Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in developing effective social media campaigns.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of online platforms including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, YouTube and LinkedIn.
  • Experience in using Google Analytics, Salesforce, Exact Target and Social Media Studio or related analytical tools.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of managing paid digital and social campaigns.
  • Experience managing and tracking Salesforce Marketing Cloud email campaigns and analytics and subscribers a plus.
  • Experience working in a higher education and/or executive environment a plus. 

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.

Flexible work options (after 3 months of service with the Herberger Institute, contingent on the need of the Unit/School and performance)
•             Alternative work schedules can include four, 10-hour workdays in a workweek; a nine-day, 80-hour schedule over two workweeks for exempt employees only; and staggered start and stop times.
•             Hybrid work is an arrangement where employees spend a minimum of 60% of their regular workweek at their primary ASU work location. Dean or vice president-level approval is required.
