Department Description

The Digital Media Specialist is part of the College’s Dean’s Office, working from within the Marketing and Communications team. The mission of the College this team is to inform and engage external and internal stakeholders to support and advance the College mission. This position will support College-wide requests but will primarily support the Dean’s Office strategic priorities and initiatives. The incumbent will interact with many staff, faculty, and students within the school throughout all 56 different units.



Job Summary

Under direction of the director of strategic communications, oversee the College of Letters and Science’s social media channels and serve as the lead website content manager. For both platforms, duties include producing content, maintaining visual style and brand, analytics reporting, monitoring, and managing follower interactions, coordinating integrated digital campaigns across platforms, developing landing pages, and producing videos for both web and social media. Provide technical support for website maintenance, help design and execute SEO and web accessibility strategies, and help manage project timelines and deliverables. Partner with the College IT team as needed on website(s) projects, and occasionally assist with data associated with email lists.

The digital specialist for the College of Letters and Science serves as the social media manager, primary web content editor, and primary digital communicator for the school. In coordination with the director and colleagues, the specialist develops social and web strategy, manages the social media calendar, monitors follower interactions, and identifies and manages issues and potential crises, in consultation with the director. The specialist creates analytics reports and uses the information to develop strategy and inform decisions. In addition, the specialist works to create videos, assist with email content, and partner with the director and IT web manager to edit the College’s website(s). The specialist ensures the school’s many constituencies and stakeholders are considered in all digital strategies. The specialist provides training as needed to fellow communicators or faculty on best practices and establishes strong working relationships with stakeholders across the University to find stories and coordinate content.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

·       Work flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends to respond to operational needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

·       BS/BA degree in advertising, communications, marketing, public relations, or equivalent education and work experience.

·       Experience and understanding of social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok etc.), and how to best utilize each channel. Experience using Content Management Systems (CMS), such as SiteFarm or Drupal, and learning and applying new technology tools. Experience working with digital tools such as marketing automation, design (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite), accessibility and SEO optimization (SiteImprove) and others.

·       Experience tracking website and social media analytics and advising clients to make necessary adjustments in order to meet stated objectives.

·       Experience using professional-quality digital audio and video recording equipment and editing software and creation of high-quality audio-visual productions.

·       Experience systematically monitoring conversations in social media, assessing opportunities for, and threats to, the advancement of a brand’s reputation, and intervening and making recommendations as necessary.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

·       Strong oral and written communication skills including editing skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all public-facing posts.

·       Project management skills: skill to work in a collaborative environment with other creative team members including other writers, designers, and web specialists. Strong time management skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:   

·       Experience applying judgment and discretion in crisis situations or when working with highly sensitive and confidential information.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

·       Knowledge of web accessibility standards and basic HTML knowledge.

·       Advanced capabilities with Adobe Creative Cloud video software (Premiere, Audition) as well as social media dashboard interfaces, such as Hootsuite.

·       Familiarity with digital asset management systems, such as MediaValet.
