Description of Work Unit
Counseling Services
Counseling Services at the CSU Health Network provides clinical services, outreach and consultation and training services. Our professional staff includes licensed psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, and licensed professional counselors, as well as graduate student staff from each of these disciplines. Our staff provides high quality mental health and substance use services that are easily accessible and support student success. We are dedicated to affirming respect, compassion, and acceptance for all, and we celebrate diversity with regard to all backgrounds and identities. Counseling Services supports the education and prevention mission of the CSU Health Network through presentations and training on mental health topics. Through outreach and consultation, we create collaborative relationships with offices serving students typically underrepresented in higher education and mental health services. Our training program provides post degree fellowship, internship, and practicum training to graduate students in psychology, social work, counseling, and student affairs. We recognize the importance of quality supervision and training in the education of future mental health professionals. Position Summary
The Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Therapist position provides mental health services for Colorado State University students. Responsibilities include: participation on Post-Hospitalization Support (iTEAM), providing clinical services, graduate training, and outreach programming.
The CSU Health Network’s iTEAM is a unique outpatient program for university students who are experiencing an acute mental health crisis. The iTEAM utilizes a DBT-informed treatment model that includes a multi-disciplinary staffing team, individual therapy informed by DBT, DBT-informed skills group, and a DBT consultation group. The DBT Therapist will also have the opportunity to consolidate traditional clinical skills in the areas of individual and group therapy, crisis intervention (both daytime and after hours), triage, and initial consultations (intakes).
The DBT Therapist reports directly to the Director of Specialty Counseling Services.
Required Job Qualifications
Education and Licensure
  • Completed terminal degree prior to start date
  • Licensed in Colorado as a Professional Counselor (LPC), Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Psychologist, within two years of start date
Preferred Job Qualifications
Experience
  • Licensed in Colorado as a Professional Counselor (LPC), Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Psychologist prior to start date (or within 90 days of start date if transferring license from another state)
  • Experience working on a DBT-informed or DBT-adherent team
  • Experience working on a multidisciplinary team, preferably including psychiatry providers, primary care providers, and mental health providers
  • Experience working in a university counseling center setting
  • Experience working with clients mandated to treatment

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team oriented setting
  • Professional commitment to serving high acuity (e.g., high risk, psychosis) clients as demonstrated through active clinical participation, intentional professional development, reading articles/research, and/or participating in other opportunities for further learning
  • Clinical experience with crisis management and risk assessment
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and experience with the treatment of individuals with marginalized identities (including use of language that affirms dignity of individuals facing Severe and Persistent Mental Illness)
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to analyze policies, programs, and initiatives to make recommendations for quality improvement.
  • A personal or professional commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through increasing self-awareness, active planning, and purposeful effort
