Shift:  4 10 hour shifts or Monday - Friday, 8a - 4p

Department: Medical Physics

Salary Range: $126,796 - $206,960/year - final salary based on experience

 

ABOUT THE JOB

MU Health Care is seeking a full-time Diagnostic Medical Physicist. The successful candidate will be an integral member of the diagnostic physics group to perform diagnostic medical equipment quality assurance/control testing. This role is responsible for evaluation, and quality assurance, including but not limited to CT, interventional radiology, cardiology, mammography, radiography, fluoroscopy, and MRI. Experience with nuclear medicine imaging devices is a plus. This position requires an individual values and demonstrates a passion for the physics profession, technical expertise, teamwork, and independent high-quality work for assuring state, federal regulatory compliance and accreditation.

JOB DUTIES

Develop, understand, and apply departmental policies and procedures that comply with state and federal regulations in order to provide accurate and safe performance of equipment, dosage, etc.

Perform acceptance, commissioning, and ongoing comprehensive quality assurance and guidance in specifying purchases and/or surveying of equipment, digital networking, and patient care devices according to state and federal guidelines. 

Perform periodic evaluation of imaging modalities for regulatory and accreditation compliance. Make recommendations for improved safety and quality of imaging. 

Work with Clinical Engineering, IT, Campus Radiation Safety and other parties as necessary.

Evaluate and specify radiation room shielding requirements and radiation risks to patients and staff. 

Evaluate any potential patient radiation overexposures and provide patient dose estimations as needed.

Provide research, foresight, and educational opportunities to improve patient care at MUHC

Maintain professional licensure and obtains CEU’s as necessary. 

May complete unit/department-specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

 

 

Qualifications

 

Master’s Degree in Medical Physics or equivalent from an accredited college or university is required.

 

Strongly prefer the following:

•    At least two years of experience in the medical physics field

•    ABR/ABMP certification in Diagnostic Medical Physics or board eligible

•    Experience in acceptance testing 

•    CT, MR, mammography and Nuclear Medicine equipment regulatory compliance 

•    Perform radiation barrier surveys 

•    Familiarity with radiation survey meters and ionization chambers 

•    QA of medical imaging workstations
