    Position description

    Dr. Sanket Dhruva, Assistant Professor of Medicine and Affiliate Faculty at the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies at UCSF School of Medicine and Staff Physician at the San Francisco VA Health Care System is seeking an individual to conduct research on understanding and strengthening the evidence base for the safe and effective use of medical devices, with the goal of improving the quality of care and clinical outcomes for patients using real-world data sources that accurately identify medical devices used in clinical care.

    The projects involve several aspects, including focus on Veterans with cardiovascular implantable electronic devices, investigating the factors associated with remote monitoring adherence as well as clinical care processes and delivery for patients with cardiovascular implantable electronic devices; understanding the safety of cardiovascular implantable electronic device generators and leads; and the effectiveness of cardiovascular implantable electronic devices, all with the goal of developing interventions that improve the quality of care and clinical outcomes for patients with cardiovascular implantable electronic devices or who may be candidates to receive one in the future.

    Required qualifications:

    The successful candidate will either be appointed in the Specialist Series at the Junior, Assistant, or Associate Level.

    • Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) a bachelor’s degree or must have at least four years of research experience.
    • Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) a master’s degree or must have at least five years of research experience.
    • Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience in the relevant specialization.
    • Candidates should have strong analytical and writing skills.

    Applicant must have all requirements met by time of hire. Individuals with doctoral degree may also apply and will be considered for appointments as postdoctoral fellows. Applicants’ materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.

    Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions and may participate in University and Public Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.

    Strong analytical and writing skills are important. This position is for two years and suitable for an individual with a political science, public health, legal, statistical, economic, or relevant life sciences background who is looking to gain research experience on the way to further career development, such as going on to graduate, medical, or law school.
