Under supervision, the incumbent is responsible for a diverse range of duties pertaining to large-scale structural test components and systems, with a primary emphasis on construction tasks.

The incumbent will provide maintenance and general operation of equipment, including material handling devices such as forklifts and mobile cranes. They will utilize hand and power tools, measuring devices, heavy equipment, and machining tools for construction purposes. Additionally, they will fabricate, assemble, and maintain electrical and mechanical equipment in support of structural testing. General creative problem-solving skills will be applied to achieve research-focused objectives.

  • Utilize machine shop equipment such as drill presses, band saws, power tools, and grinding equipment for construction projects involving various materials including wood, steel, and aluminum.

  • Ability to work effectively in field-like conditions, including working on scaffolding, ladders, and in manlift baskets to complete construction tasks.

  • Operate forklifts and a mobile crane to assist in material handling and construction tasks. Training will be provided for the mobile crane if the applicant does not have a certificate.

  • Ensure adherence to laboratory and construction safety procedures, particularly in handling hazardous materials and equipment.

  • Collaborate with project stakeholders including researchers, engineers, and construction teams to understand project requirements and achieve desired outcomes.

  • Troubleshoot and repair electronic components as needed for construction projects.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to address construction-related challenges efficiently.

  • Demonstrated ability to produce quality work with attention to detail in a construction setting.

  • Effective communication skills to interact with a diverse team of construction personnel, researchers, and faculty members.

  • Must be able to occasionally work evening and weekends as required to complete research projects.

  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.


Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $55,165 - $66,231 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $26.42 - $31.72

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
