Position Description:

The UofL Health - UofL Hospital is seeking a Development Officer IV (Senior Director of Development) or a Development Officer III (Director of Development), depending on the top candidate's level of experience, to serve UofL Health - UofL Hospital. This individual will lead, develop, and manage a comprehensive fundraising program focused on major gifts, employee giving, grateful patient support, and grant development in coordination with the VP for UofL Health Philanthropy, the Senior Director of Development for the Brown Cancer Center, and the hospital CEOs. The Sr. Director of Development or Director of Development will work collaboratively with colleagues across UofL Health, UofL School of Medicine, and University Advancement, to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects for UofL Hospital's programs, including trauma, emergency department, burn unit, stroke program, oncology, and the Center for Women and Infants. UofL Hospital is undergoing major construction to build a new hospital tower and this person will lead capital fundraising efforts. All job functions must be performed with a high degree of professionalism, including responsibility, initiative, creativity, dependability, human relations, cooperation, courtesy, confidentiality, and in compliance with Affirmative Action guidelines. The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and be mission driven.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage relationship with the internal leadership of the UofL Health - UofL Hospital, gathering and disseminating funding priorities and opportunities with development team.
  • Collaborate with other University Advancement staff to ensure a donor-centric approach is taken, with full consideration of a donor's or organization's multiple interests.
  • Oversee annual giving, employee giving and the grateful patient program in coordination with the UofL Health development team, the UofL Foundation, and UofL Hospital leadership.
  • Build relationships with doctors, staff, and patients to collect patient stories for the Gratitude Heals grateful patient program, marketing, and impact reports.
  • Work with hospital staff to identify potential grateful patient verbal cues and how to make the referral to a member of development.
  • Supervise the drafting and deployment of annual giving solicitation letters and emails.
  • Collaborate with internal leadership on an employee giving program and build a culture of giving among staff.
  • Supervise the drafting and deployment of monthly thank you emails.
  • Supervise the development of annual giving, employee giving and grateful patient materials.
  • Collaborate with stewardship team on efforts for the UofL Health - UofL Hospital, including supervising the compilation and sharing of stewardship in
  • formation from across the hospitals; supervising the stewardship of past donors with ongoing engagement opportunities that will build affinity for, and ownership of UofL Hospital.
  • Meet or exceed annual unit goals as defined each year by supervisor.
  • Build and manage a portfolio of approximately 100 major gift donors.
  • Refer and identify prospects to, and work collaboratively with, colleagues.
  • Collaborate with event coordinator on planning of events for UofL Hospital.
Occasional work on nights and weekends will be required to attend events in support of the unit initiatives as well as to complete tasks. Occasional in-state and regional travel may be required.

This is an in-person position.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the Senior Director of Development will have 7-10 years of experience and for the Director of Development, the ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience. Either person will have a passion for improving community health, health outcomes and health equity, and advancing academic medical care for our region. They will demonstrate:
