Position Description:

The Development Officer III (Director of Development) for UofL Health - Brown Cancer Center (BCC) will play a pivotal role in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts for the BCC's research and clinical trials programs and be responsible for developing and sustaining meaningful connections with donors, ensuring an unparalleled donor experience, and championing the overall advancement goals of the UofL Health - Brown Cancer Center. The Director of Development will focus their fundraising activity on the research efforts, including clinical trials, of the Brown Cancer Center, and be responsible for building a portfolio of major gift donors.  They will lead, develop, and manage a comprehensive fundraising portfolio focused on major giving, leadership annual giving, and grant development in coordination with the VP for UofL Health Philanthropy, the Senior Director of Development for the Brown Cancer Center, and the Director/CAO of the UofL Health - Brown Cancer Center. The Director of Development will work collaboratively with colleagues across University Advancement, UofL School of Medicine, and UofL Health to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects for research efforts in the Brown Cancer Center. All job functions must be performed with a high degree of professionalism, including responsibility, initiative, creativity, dependability, human relations, cooperation, courtesy, and in compliance with Affirmative Action guidelines. The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and be mission driven.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Qualify, solicit, and steward donations to advance research for the UofL Health - Brown Cancer Center, working with existing donors, grateful patients, foundations, and community leaders.
  • Build and manage a portfolio of approximately 75 major gift and leadership annual fund donors.
  • Collaborate with other University Advancement staff to ensure a donor-centric approach is taken, with full consideration of a donor's or organization's multiple interests.
  • Develop and implement engagement and stewardship strategies to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with donors focused on research efforts.
  • Create and manage personalized donor communications plans, ensuring timely and accurate interactions and reporting.
  • Collaborate with the Sr. Director of Development to identify opportunities for donor cultivation and recognition.
  • Build relationships with researchers and other university and hospital staff to collect information for impact reports, and cultivation and solicitation efforts.
  • Meet or exceed annual unit goals as defined each year by supervisor.
  • Refer and identify prospects to, and work collaboratively with, colleagues.
  • Write and deliver impact reports for granting partners and donors.
  • Collaborate with stewardship team on efforts for the UofL Health - Brown Cancer Center, including supervising the compilation and sharing of stewardship information to necessary institutional partners; supervising the stewardship of past donors with ongoing engagement opportunities that will build affinity for, and ownership of research efforts at the BCC.

Occasional work on nights and weekends will be required to attend events in support of the unit initiatives as well as to complete tasks.  Occasional in-state and regional travel may be required.
