Job Summary
Coordinates all
development activities for the DuBard School for Language Disorders including
coordination with all related university entities, private donors, foundations,
government granting agencies, state and local officers, legislators, and
elected officials. Works in concert with USM Foundation development staff and
the Office of the Dean of the College of Nursing & Health Professions.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university with one to two years’ experience and/or training.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of foundation and donor cultivation, development, and stewardship, as well as grant writing research practices and procedures.
- Knowledge and understanding of state government legislative procedures, practices, and deadlines. Employees of this position are prohibited from disclosing confidential and proprietary information of donors and prospects, the Foundation, the University as well as students and staff of the DuBard School as these are specifically protected by HIPAA. This confidentiality obligation is effective while employed in this position and continues after termination of employment.
- Employee must be reliable, punctual, honest, cooperative, professional, and respectful.
- Must be organized, able to multi-task, and skilled in managing one’s own time and maintaining a high degree of personal initiative. Skilled in timely and effective communication, both oral and written, and interpersonal skills for dealing with state and local elected officials, students, parents, staff, persons inquiring about services, and other University personnel and departments.
- Skilled in word processing and the creation of reports, spreadsheets, and presentations in one-on-one and large group settings.
- Excellent donor and foundation cultivation, development, stewardship, research, and record-keeping skills, careful attention to detail, as well as a strong understanding of state government operations and legislative procedures. Must have the ability to work before and after normal business hours, including weekends. Must be able to travel or complete overnight stays.
- Seeks opportunities for professional development. Effectively engages and interacts with others to collaborate and provide value-added support that enhances results and team effectiveness.
- Must demonstrate initiative to learn new skills and maintain a thorough knowledge of techniques, procedures, and equipment pertaining to the job.
- Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, respect, and discretion when dealing with or communicating confidential matters as they relate to university policy and HIPAA.
- Must be able to type 40 WPM.
Preferred Qualifications
2 years of development or similar experience at an accredited university or other comparable fundraising organization, or equivalent professional experience in outside sales. Must have a valid MS driver's license.
