 The University of Pittsburgh’s Division of Philanthropic & Alumni Engagement is seeking a Development Associate (DA) to join a progressive team within the Swanson School of Engineering. Responsibilities include: (1) planning and executing cultivation and stewardship tasks, activities, and events for SSOE prospects and donors under management by the Executive Director of Development (2) providing research, analysis, and other assistance in designing and implementing tasks and strategies for the Executive Director (3) conducting stewardship visits annually with prospects who have made a substantial gift via their estate and/or indicated they are not interested in making additional gifts. The DA must possess strong oral and written skills with an ability to persuade; strong organizational skills; and an exceptional ability to communicate with a variety of University alumni, donors, faculty, staff, senior leadership, and friends; strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Knowledge of and experience with the engineering profession and the mission of engineering schools and the ability to translate that mission in ways that engage and inspire donors and alumni is essential. This position requires occasional travel and evening and weekend work.

Essential Functions Plan and execute stewardship tasks and activities for donors under management by the executive director of development and other gift officers. Support donor stewardship activities such as campus visits to speak with students and faculty, private luncheons with recipients and donors, departmental awards ceremonies, lectures and other campus events, private and public receptions and dinners, etc. Oversee gift acknowledgement processes to ensure that each donor is thanked by student/faculty recipients and members of the University community. Respond to gift inquiries and work with donors and departments to ensure that gifts are appropriately directed and that the appropriate accounts are created. Create reports combining data from multiple sources which provide analysis, research and recommendations in response to queries from the executive director, the Dean of the Swanson School, and PAE staff. Design, prepare and implement the annual review of gift account spending and donor stewardship activities for each department within the Swanson School. Work with the Office of the Sr. Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, SSOE, OAFA, and relevant Departments to match and award SSOE scholarships and fellowships. Responsible for stewardship meetings and/or substantive contacts only. Should the prospect have the capacity and inclination to make a major gift to the University, incumbent will prepare and execute gift and pledge agreements. This includes ensuring that gift proposals meet the priorities of the School and receive approval from the Executive Director of Development, revising agreements to meet donor’s specifications, ensuring it meets legal requirements and submitting for review by the Office of University Counsel. Assist the executive director with the development, management, and analysis of tasks and strategies for the stewardship and impact of SSOE donors. Develop and review stewardship policies and procedures for SSOE. Research and analyze the giving activity of donors using the Affinaquest database and prepare reports for the executive director. Participate in SSOE team meetings, and initiate/participate in meetings with school-based administrators and chairs. Manage the timely and accurate entry of data into Affinaquest.
Physical Effort Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
