About the Opportunity
Position: Development Associate in the Advancement Office.
Northeastern seeks a self-motivated, detail-focused, and service-oriented individual who is able to independently manage workloads, prioritize and manage ongoing projects, and handle multiple responsibilities. This position requires excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, the ability to listen, a strong work ethic, and knowledge of and interest in development. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President (AVP), this position will also provide daily support to the Executive Director, Leadership Giving and Athletics, as well as members of the Leadership Giving team as needed.
The primary responsibilities of this position are comprised of administrative and development functions including scheduling meetings and appointments using Microsoft Outlook software, event and trip planning, managing monthly expenses and reimbursements for the development teams using Concur software, conducting research, ensuring up-to-date and accurate development activity is appropriately documented in Salesforce in a timely manner, and crafting and preparing reports from Salesforce and Banner programs. This position will support a team of frontline fundraises who are tasked with securing donations of $10K-$100K for Northeastern University. This position requires an energetic individual who is eager to contribute to the team's success and must be comfortable talking to alumni, parents and faculty over the phone and face-to-face interactions. They will act as a liaison with other groups across Northeastern.
The Development Associate works independently and proactively updates the AVP and Executive Director on the status of projects. They will provide primary administrative support for the AVP and Executive Director, and will support other Leadership Giving team members as necessary.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Administrative Support (35%)
Manage and schedule meeting arrangements for AVP and ED. Plan trips and events, maintain expenses and reimbursement reconciliations and compile reports from Salesforce for the AVP and ED. Stay up-to-date on Northeastern and relevant related news. Maintain constituent information in the donor database, including biographical information, solicitation, contact information and meeting notes
Communication (25%)
Prepare materials for internal and external meetings. Draft briefing materials for meetings and events with high-level prospects, assuring that all data is accurate and up-to-date. Draft follow-up correspondence. Prepare and proof written communications for the AVP and ED. Assist with projects and preparation of reports and documents as needed. Assist with pulling reports and supporting the Leadership Giving fundraising team.
Database Management (25%)
Lead effort to assure that key contacts, correspondence, and strategies are entered in relationship management software (Salesforce and Banner) for leadership, major and principal gift prospects. Design and extract reports to oversee and monitor strategic activity with prospects and donors. Monitor and implement systems to assure strategic follow up by senior administrators and faculty.
Office Management (10%)
Act as a gatekeeper and first point of contact for the LG team. Staffing advancement events as requested. Assisting in special projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to manage and facilitate an intense workload and produce quality results in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to manage multiple priority projects for multiple people at once with ease and efficiency.
  • Must be proactive, anticipate problems, be resourceful and work effectively with colleagues and external constituents at all levels.
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary for building relationships with external (donors, prospects, trustees) and internal (deans, faculty, staff, colleagues) constituents.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and interest in international affairs.
  • Strong organizational skills; must be detail oriented.
  • Highly collaborative in approach.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment when dealing with confidential and sensitive material.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Power Point, and Excel.

Bachelor's Degree required; at least 2 years of professional experience in higher education development strongly preferred.
