Summary of Job Duties:

Under the supervision of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Alumni and Development, the Development/Advancement Specialist is responsible for encouraging alumni engagement at UA Little Rock. The role involves guiding initiatives like the student alumni/philanthropy council, managing alumni volunteers, and asking for philanthropic support of Centennial Campaign priorities when applicable. The individual will grow existing relationships in close collaboration with the Alumni Board of Directors and work to build new relationships with a diverse alumni population. The position is housed in the Bailey Alumni and Friends Center at UA Little Rock with at least five days in the office per week. There will be some night and weekend events that will be required. There will also be travel in state, and on occasion, travel out of state. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree 

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Experience working in higher education or non-profits;

  • Experience in event planning, alumni engagement, project management, database entry, reporting, managing volunteers, program development, marketing and communications.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and conduct at least 4 to 5 face-to-face visits weekly with UA Little Rock alumni ranging from campus tours, home/office visits, etc. with a focus on growing alumni engagement and philanthropy;

  • Learn, implement and share knowledge of university priorities and generate alumni interest in supporting key philanthropic interests;

  • Establish relationships and work collaboratively with current and past students, appropriate university staff, and the external community to generate interest in alumni engagement opportunities that appeal to a diverse range of alumni and community members. This may include having an Association presence in community and university events;

  • Help identify and get in touch with recent alumni to volunteer for student panels and competitions, classroom speakers, career center, etc. 

  • Build/Implement a Thank a Donor Week, consisting of but not limited to activities for new supporters and recurring donors, donor luncheon or dinners, exclusive campus tours, academic program events, etc. 

  • Staff and support events such as Board of Directors meetings, and valued traditions such as Distinguished Alumni Luncheon, BBQ at Bailey, Taste of Little Rock, UA Little Rock fall and spring commencement, Oaklawn Day at the Races; GradFest, and at least four networking events yearly (events are subject to change and are not limited to those listed);

  • Plan and coordinate a variety of events and activities to be hosted at the Bailey Alumni Patio, including but not limited to brick reveals, commencement celebrations, pre-game athletic events et al; 

  • Lead communications about alumni and alumni programs to current students, faculty, and alums;

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a social media plan of engagement for students, alumni, faculty, and staff (at least three social media engagements weekly);

  • Support the Associate Vice Chancellor as needed to include event planning and meeting support, reporting and tracking of projects, engagement, and giving activity;

  • Establish and oversee a student philanthropy council that meets quarterly; 

  • Assist and support the AVC in developing and implementing alumni recognition programs that support the university’s goals;

  • Leverage the advancement  database to record, track and measure all alumni and student engagement activities;

  • Represent the Alumni Association and/or University at on- and off-campus meetings, conferences, and seminars;

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to be a reliable self-starter who regularly sets and achieves work goals;

  • Ability to work well in a team environment and be able to accept input as well as supervisory guidance;

  • Have excellent organizational skills and follow through to achieve results within the designated time frame;

  • Ability to motivate volunteers;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to quickly build rapport with a variety of partners;

  • Possess the ability to be creative and a meticulous event and program planner;

  • Ability to travel in the state, which may include overnight stays;

  • Demonstrated effectiveness through written and verbal communication;

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a complex environment, but also to work independently and without close supervision;

  • Ability to work with an ethnically diverse constituency of donors, alumni, friends, faculty, staff, and student leaders;

  • Knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;

  • Ability to use the Internet and database management systems;

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle, hold a valid driver’s license, and have a good driving record to meet state requirements for operating a vehicle while on state business.
