Description of Work Unit

The Division of Information Technology, the central IT organization for Colorado State University-Ft. Collins, supports the land-grant heritage of the institution as well as the university’s missions of teaching and learning, research, and service. The Division of IT is responsible for delivering enterprise and campus focused IT services for the Ft. Collins campus as well as throughout the CSU-System. Areas of responsibility include Research IT, Application Development and User Support Services, Academic Technology, Cybersecurity & Privacy, Networking and Telecommunications, Infrastructure and Databases, Business Intelligence and Data Integrations, Administrative Applications, and Student Applications.

Position Summary
This developer/analyst position supports the University’s student-based information systems by planning for, designing, and implementing both new student systems and significant enhancements to existing systems; providing the big picture understanding and technical expertise necessary to implement system architectures in the CSU environment; assessing these systems for acceptable functional and technical performance; analyzing problems to determine appropriate resolutions; researching emerging computer hardware and software technologies to determine their applicability to current and future systems; providing student system modification and enhancement plans, analysis, programs and documentation; and providing expert advice to Department management staff and stakeholders in functional areas, and to members of peer institutions and agencies.
This position works remotely requiring a teleworking application and memorandum of understanding with agreement and adherence to the Colorado State University Teleworking Policy. The employee shall be available in a full-time capacity during assigned teleworking hours (specific hours to be discussed with supervisor). While teleworking, the employee is responsible for ensuring a worksite environment suitable for accomplishing their regular job duties during scheduled hours of work and, if applicable, arranging for dependent care just as they would if they were working at the regular CSU worksite.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or the equivalent; Or other bachelor’s degree when accompanied with 3 or more years of enterprise-level application development experience.
  • Application development experience utilizing SQL.
  • Application development experience using Java, Grails, C#, .NET, or other object-oriented programming (OOP) language(s).
  • Experience developing with a relational database management system such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or MySQL.
  • Knowledge and experience with all phases of the software development cycle.
  • Excellent written communication skills.

Duty/Responsibility
  • Contributor in areas of requirements analysis, solution design, code development, testing, implementation and operational support for vendor-delivered systems/modules (e.g., Banner Administrative Pages and Self-Service modules) as well as integration with many student-related systems in stakeholder areas (e.g., Registrar, Financial Aid, Admissions, Graduate School, etc.) and integration with other campus enterprise systems (HR, Finance, NetID).
  • Provides system architectural guidance in areas of responsibility to Department management, stakeholder areas such as Registrar’s Office, Financial Aid, Student Information Systems team members, and to other teams providing services to the Student Information Systems Team.
  • Analyzes system functionality problems by investigating reported problems, recommending and prioritizing corrective actions, defining test plans to assure the quality of the system changes, and scheduling production control changes with client and operational staff.
  • Provide support of scheduled production job processes, sometimes outside of the scheduled work hours. Identify and correct the cause of job failures and implement the most appropriate solution to expedite the completion of the production schedules. Advise other staff members in solving complex production issues
