The Enterprise Windows and Azure Administration (EWA) team manages a wide variety of both vended and internally developed web, application, and database servers. The EWA DevOps team also supports CI/CD pipelines, web application and container deployment, management, monitoring, et cetera for a wide variety of Indiana University development teams. In addition, EWA manages and supports Microsoft Azure and Power Platforms at IU, including PowerBI. 

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, and implements software integrations and advanced functions for internal use using PowerShell.
  • Designs and manages integration and deployment processes using CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps.
  • Advises on team architecture and provides advanced knowledge in the building, configuration, operation, monitoring, and maintenance of scripts and code used to administer and automate servers and systems.
  • Deploys and manages containerized applications hosted in Kubernetes.
  • Manages code deployments, updates, and fixes promptly and efficiently.
  • Documents processes, maintaining and updating existing procedures to enhance our operational efficiency.
  • Collaborates with development teams to facilitate continuous integration and continuous delivery processes.
  • Designs and implements Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using tools like Ansible to automate the provisioning and management of our Windows server infrastructure, ensuring consistent and repeatable setups.
  • Establishes metrics and provides advanced monitoring of servers and systems, using a combination of scripting and system management technologies.
  • Monitors patches and updates for all servers and systems with the latest operating system, application, and other security updates.
  • Researches and stays up to date on systems administration best practices and automation approaches; may participate in committees and communities of practice to share and improve systems administration practices across the university.
  • May serve as project leader; often provides guidance to other colleagues.

General Responsibilities

  • Develops, maintains, and reviews scripts and code used to administer and automate servers and systems; establishes scripts to manage exchanges between development and operations teams.
  • Designs, configures, and installs new systems, including hardware, software, virtual machines, servers, storage and other network devices; creates and maintains a framework for automated test, build, and deployment for applications.
  • Establishes metrics and monitors system configuration(s) to ensure data integrity and optimum system performance metrics are obtained and maintained.
  • Provides experienced monitoring of systems, using a combination of scripting and system management technologies, including application performance management (APM) and creation of custom monitors; develops internal operations scripts to automate operations team functions and assist with monitoring, patching, etc.
  • Develops strategies for improving design, performance, and availability of systems; provides systems engineers with feedback from business units regarding upcoming technology initiatives.
  • Documents systems to satisfy business continuity, security, inventory, and supportability requirements.
  • Collaborates with development teams in creating scripts for monitoring, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting various systems.
  • Researches and stays up-to-date with systems administration best practices and automation approaches.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in computer science or related field. 

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 2 years of experience in network and server administration, scripting and/or software development. 

Preferred

  • 2 years of experience in scripting languages such as PowerShell.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps. 
  • Experience with infrastructure as code solutions such as Ansible.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position is eligible for remote work or to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.  

$65,000 - $75,000 per year based on experience and internal equity within the department.
