Seton Hall University School of Law’s Immigrants’ Rights/International Human Rights Clinic through its Detention and Deportation Defense Initiative has an immediate opening for a full-time Detention Fellow. This is a two-year fellowship and is entirely grant-funded.
The Center for Social Justice is home to the Law School’s vibrant clinical program including civil litigation; equal justice; family law; health justice; criminal law; immigrants’ rights/international human rights; and impact litigation. Furthermore, the Immigrants’ Rights/International Human Rights Clinic is one of four partners in an exciting project, funded by the state of New Jersey, to provide legal representation to detained and non-detained immigrants in removal proceedings. Seton Hall Law’s Detention Project presently encompasses a Managing Attorney, two full-time Practitioners-in Residence, two clinical faculty members, a Detention Fellow, clinical and extern law students, and two full-time paralegals. The goal of the Project is to provide universal representation to immigrants detained in New Jersey.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Providing legal representation to detained and non-detained immigrants in removal proceedings.
• Coordinating law student involvement with the immigration detention project.
• Representing CSJ at stakeholder and community/advocacy meetings.
• Tracking hours, assisting in grant report preparation.
Required Qualifications:
• A J.D. or LL.M. degree
• Commitment to ensuring that detained and non-detained immigrants have access to counsel and due process
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desired Qualifications:
• Preferably 1-year experience in immigration law
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Strong preference for bilingual English/Spanish applicants
Licenses and Certificates:
• A J.D. or LL.M. degree
Salary Grade:
AD150 - Administrative
Exempt/Nonexempt: Exempt
Physical Demands: General Office Environment
