Job Summary
To enforce the law, provide service, information and aid to all citizens as circumstances require, prevent crime, suppress disturbances, investigate criminal offenses, and arrest offenders.
Minimum Education and Experience
Basic Peace Officer Certification issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
At least two (2) years experience as a full-time commissioned peace officer within the state of Texas.
Preferred Education and Experience
At least 10 years of experience as a full-time commissioned peace officer within UT System or a state, county, or municipal police department with a minimum of 6 years of full-time investigative/detective work investigating violent crimes, property crimes, white-collar crimes, and vice and narcotics. Must be experienced in filing criminal cases in a municipality, county, and district courts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides the necessary investigative expertise and oversight on a wide variety of criminal investigations.
  • Perform criminal investigative duties on the property under the control and jurisdiction of The University of Texas System.
  • Enforce U.T. System Board of Regents’ Rule and Regulations.
  • Execute all lawful processes
  • Attempt to locate missing persons.
  • Arrest offenders with and without a warrant when authorized by law.
  • Investigate criminal offenses to detect and arrest criminals, and recover stolen or lost property.
  • Safely perform all duties and responsibilities as required for the Detective and all subordinate ranks.
  • Apprehend, interrogate, and arrest individuals who violate the law.
  • Work with the Dean of Students Office for code of conduct violations.
  • Respond to calls for assistance and provide police protection.
  • Perform complete preliminary and follow-up investigations of crimes and crime scenes, either independently or as a member of a team.
  • Prepare case files, reports and evidence to be submitted to the Office of District Attorney or city attorney.
  • Interview, witnesses, victims, complainant; take depositions and/or statements.
  • Write and serve arrest and search warrants.
  • Conduct searches and collect physical evidence.

Additional Information
Must be able to hold a Peace Officer commission issued by the University of Texas System and a valid driver’s license not subject to suspicion. Must be eligible to drive a University owned or leased motor vehicle. Must meet certain prerequisites established by the Office of the Director of Police, the U.T. System Board of Regents and the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement concerning age requirements and physical, mental and educational standards. Must have the physical and mental capabilities to properly carry out responsibilities and duties as a commissioned Peace Officer of The University of Texas System. Must possess effective written, oral and communication skills. Must have knowledge and skills in emergency medical procedures, first aid and CPR techniques.
This position is classified as security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of section 51.215, Texas Education Code.
