Advertised Job Summary
Are you a graphic designer seeking greater variety in your work? Switch up what you do as a creative professional at the University of South Carolina. Use your expertise in visual design and typography, project management and production knowledge to deliver compelling, creative solutions for digital and print communications at the state’s flagship university. Hybrid schedule and generous leave available.
Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or high school diploma and 4 years related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in graphic design or equivalent study in a professional school and three years of related experience.
A general knowledge of marketing and advertising best practices and production processes is desired. Possess a positive attitude and demonstrate flexibility in responding to changing conditions on projects. Thorough grounding in current offset printing procedures from prepress through bindery including both web and sheet-fed processes is highly preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Detailed working knowledge of software for digital design and development, print design and publishing and the accurate preparation of files for vendors.
Advanced level skill with core Adobe Creative Cloud design applications
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Basic editorial skills to include an understanding of proofreading marks and spellcheck and grammar software.
Well-developed understanding of established and emerging design aesthetics, print and digital design principles, typography, color theory, illustration, photography and techniques for effective design.
Artistic skill, technical knowledge and originality through custom illustration.
Experience using production and project management software.
Strong art direction ability to provide clarity and definition, covey messaging and evoke emotion.
Excellent communications and creative thinking skills, with an ability to effectively present to clients and communicate underlying strategies.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
Familiarity with usage rights, licensing and copyright laws.
Experience and ability to create and design within defined brand standards.
Ability to work as a team player, demonstrate personal initiative and inspire colleagues.
Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
