Description of Work Unit | The Richardson Design Center (RDC) is a multi-disciplinary center, located in the College of Health and Human Sciences at CSU in Fort Collins, CO, with a mission to foster interdisciplinary creative collaboration. It serves as a design-thinking hub where students from across campus can gather to collaborate, innovate, and prototype creative ideas in formal and informal learning spaces using state-of-the art equipment and technology. The RDC has: 4 studio/lab classrooms for hands-on learning, 1 seminar room for use by professional staff, 1 small dedicated project rooms that can also be used for student teams and visiting designers-in-residence, 2 computer labs, a design exchange (for student presentations, gallery exhibitions, special lectures and events, etc.), an ideation lab (including virtual reality equipment), prototyping lab (laser cutters, 3d printers, CNC textile equipment, etc), metal shop (traditional metalworking tools, welding, as well as state-of-the-art CNC milling machinery), and a wood shop (traditional woodworking hand and power tools as well as a large (4’x8’) CNC router). The CSU Spur campus, located at the National Western Center in Denver, Colorado houses three buildings focused on water, food and agriculture, human and animal health, and sustainability. Within the Spur buildings, CSU conducts research and convenes experts from around the globe; students of all ages engage with science and have opportunities for exploratory learning, transforming their thinking about food, water, and health, and the careers available in these fields; and partners join in programming the space and bring evolving content to the year-round campus. |
Position Summary | This position will be responsible for design thinking engagement in two locations: The Nancy Richardson Design Center (RDC), located in Fort Collins, CO; and at the Spur Campus in Denver, CO. In Fort Collins, this position will be responsible for further building and scaling the presence, program, and relationships in the K12 space across the Fort Collins community and the greater Colorado region. They will be expected to plan and run design thinking community workshops and support regular academic courses during the academic year and summer. At Spur, this position will be responsible for building and scaling the RDC’s design thinking presence, program, and relationships. They will be expected to plan and run design thinking community workshops and other community-engaged activities on weekdays and some evenings and weekends. They will also be responsible for the supervision and coordination of our makers/fabrication space located within The Shop and are expected to aid in fostering new relationships and opportunities in K-12, while growing community support and engagement for existing initiatives, programs, and relationships. They will also be responsible for logistics and implementation of the program’s developed. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can work independently on assigned projects and collaborate and lead small teams. They must be outgoing and willing to engage with people of all ages from the community. While at Spur, this person is responsible for and must be committed to the safety of all lab users. |
