Princeton University Advancement works to inform, inspire, and involve Princeton’s global community of alumni, parents, and friends in ways that enable the University to fulfill its mission of advancing learning through scholarship, research, and teaching to serve humanity. We seek a Design and Multimedia Associate who will create original graphic designs for a variety of projects that engage alumni and inspire donors to the University. In this position on the Advancement Communications team, you will work in collaboration with members of the Advancement Communications staff, creating print and digital designs that actualize Advancement strategic communications and marketing goals. In addition to creating original designs, you will perform other design and production tasks, updating existing designs; preparing files for printing, posting in social media, on the alumni website, and in email; and selecting photography and helping to maintain our photography database, all with a sensitivity to production schedules and project deadlines.

  • Conceives and executes original design concepts that will successfully meet the University campaign and Advancement goals for meaningful alumni engagement, fundraising, and donor and volunteer stewardship.
  • Applies existing design concepts to new print and digital communications.
  • Creates and programs interactive designs for social media, web, and other digital tools.
  • Updates and prepares files for printing as well as posting on-line.
  • Creates original email design templates for email marketing campaigns, electronic event communications, and alumni and donor engagement email communications.
  • Maintains inventory of digital photos in the electronic asset management system for Advancement Communications, uploading new materials as needed.


  • Minimum of five years experience in graphic design or Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of experience in graphic design.
  • Excellent graphic design skills, with understanding of best practices of digital and print design and a high degree of creativity.
  • Excellent knowledge of design for social media platforms, web, email, and print. 
  • Understanding of University, Advancement, and campaign brand standards.
  • Understanding of typography, graphics, logo development and color theory, and ability to apply in all media
  • Expertise with printing processes such as offset and digital print technologies.
  • Expertise with image and layout manipulation programs including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, and with photo database platforms such as Cumulus or Canto.
  • Ability to work in Mac and PC environments
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to build and maintain strong relationships of trust with a wide array of colleagues, volunteers, and other partners.
  • Experience working in higher education, the nonprofit sector, or a marketing or advertising agency or equivalent.
  • Excellent proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task while handling several concurrent projects.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members and project partners.
